Job Overview:
The Head of Group Financial Risk Department (GFIN) at the EIB will be responsible for creating a vision for the Department and developing financial risk policies and methodologies as part of the overall risk management framework. This role involves identifying, measuring, monitoring, controlling, and reporting on risk positions, including market risk, liquidity risk, and counterparty credit risk. The successful candidate will lead a team of approximately 7 direct reports and over 60 staff, ensuring that risk data and processes are governed by strong frameworks. The position requires regular office presence at the EIB headquarters in Luxembourg and offers relocation support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Head of Group Financial Risk Department include providing strategic leadership and direction to the Department’s staff, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring staff are equipped with the necessary competencies and resources. The role involves overseeing the implementation of the Department's strategy and policy, managing the Budget & Procurement strategy, and enhancing the Financial Risk Management framework. The Head will also drive modernization efforts through data governance and digitalisation, oversee the Asset and Liability Management Committee, and represent the Department in Group-wide committees and strategic engagements with external stakeholders. Additionally, the role requires maintaining regular contacts with financial risk specialists and collaborating with internal and external auditors.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree, preferably at the Master’s level, in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a quantitative field. Post-graduate studies are advantageous. A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in banking, financial institutions, or international organisations is required, with a focus on financial, credit, and market risk management. At least 5 years of leadership experience is essential, along with in-depth knowledge of Financial Risk Management and experience in managing complex risk management software applications. Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, and excellent interpersonal skills are also necessary.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree at the Master’s level in relevant fields such as Finance, Economics, or Business Administration. Additional post-graduate studies would be considered an advantage, indicating a higher level of expertise and commitment to the field.
Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of professional experience in relevant sectors, particularly in banking and financial institutions, with a strong emphasis on financial, credit, and market risk management. Candidates should also have a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, demonstrating a proven ability to manage and motivate teams effectively.
Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French and/or other EU languages is considered an advantage, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse environment of the EIB.

This is a full-time position at grade 8/9, with an appointment term of up to five years, which may be renewed or converted according to applicable policies.
