The Associate Director, Operations – Ebola Response is a pivotal role within the STRIDES Activity portfolio, responsible for providing operational leadership during Ebola outbreak response activities. This position requires a strategic approach to ensure the rapid and compliant implementation of field operations, emergency procurement, staffing, and partner coordination. The Associate Director will work closely with various stakeholders, including country teams, HQ units, and donors, to maintain operational continuity and responsiveness to the evolving conditions of the outbreak. The role emphasizes the importance of effective communication, coordination, and compliance with organizational policies and government regulations, ensuring that all operational activities align with the overarching goals of the Ebola response efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Director will lead operations management for Ebola response activities across multiple countries, ensuring strategic coherence and compliance with organizational policies and donor regulations. Key responsibilities include serving as the operations coordination lead for response activation, surge staffing, and procurement. The role involves building the capacity of project team members to manage emergency operations effectively, coordinating with various teams on compliance and performance standards, and supporting programming staff in documenting lessons learned. The Associate Director will also conduct routine monitoring visits to ensure donor compliance and operational readiness, manage budgets, and facilitate effective communication among stakeholders. Additionally, the position requires identifying operational gaps and opportunities for further programming, maintaining strong relationships with donors, and acting as the focal point for Ebola-related communications.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess effective knowledge of global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and infectious disease emergency response activities, particularly those funded by US government or international donors. Familiarity with various funding mechanisms, contracting, and reporting requirements is essential. The role demands strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as an awareness of cultural differences and the political considerations of operating in international settings. Problem-solving skills are crucial, as the Associate Director will need to make operational decisions in complex and time-sensitive situations, balancing compliance, safety, and operational feasibility.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Communication, Social Marketing, Economic Development, Health, or a related area is required. A Project Management (PM) Certification is preferred, indicating a strong foundation in managing projects effectively within the context of emergency response and public health.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a management role. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in supporting outbreak response and humanitarian emergencies, with a proven track record of coordinating cross-functional teams in rapidly changing environments. Experience in project management within the NGO sector and operating in insecure environments is also essential.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while native or fluent French language skills are considered an advantage, enhancing communication capabilities in diverse operational contexts.

This position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location. The expected salary range for this role is between USD 110,000 and 130,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
