The job posting organization is the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which is a global development network of the United Nations. Job Overview:
This position is part of a call for roster for national individual consultants specializing in Environment and Waste Management. The primary function of this role is to provide expert consultancy services to support UNDP's initiatives in Lebanon related to environmental sustainability and waste management practices. The consultant will be expected to engage in various projects that aim to improve waste management systems, promote recycling, and enhance environmental protection measures. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders. The consultant will also be responsible for conducting assessments, developing strategies, and providing recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of waste management practices in Lebanon.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: conducting comprehensive assessments of current waste management practices in various regions of Lebanon; developing and implementing strategies for improving waste management systems; providing technical assistance and guidance to local authorities and communities; facilitating training sessions and workshops to raise awareness about sustainable waste management; preparing detailed reports and documentation of findings and recommendations; collaborating with other UN agencies, NGOs, and stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to environmental management; monitoring and evaluating the impact of implemented strategies and providing feedback for continuous improvement; and participating in relevant meetings and forums to represent UNDP's interests in environmental and waste management discussions.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, waste management, or a related field. They should have demonstrated experience in project management, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with local environmental regulations and policies in Lebanon is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should have a proven track record of working in multi-disciplinary teams and possess excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in environmental science, waste management, public health, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset. Candidates should have completed relevant training or certifications in waste management practices or environmental sustainability.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of professional experience in environmental management or waste management projects. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar agencies, is highly advantageous. Proven experience in conducting assessments and developing strategies for waste management is essential, as well as familiarity with community engagement practices.
Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory. Knowledge of French or other languages is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.
Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, which may involve a flexible work schedule. The contract duration will be determined based on project needs and consultant availability. The position is open to national candidates only, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The consultant will be expected to work closely with the UNDP Lebanon office and may be required to travel within the country as part of their duties.
