Job Overview:
The position of Engineering & Urban Planning - CALL FOR ROSTER is aimed at recruiting national individual consultants who will contribute to various projects related to urban planning and engineering within Lebanon. The selected candidates will be part of a roster that UNDP can draw upon for specific projects as they arise. This role requires a deep understanding of urban development challenges in Lebanon, including infrastructure, housing, and environmental sustainability. The consultants will be expected to provide technical expertise, conduct assessments, and develop strategic plans that align with UNDP's mission to promote sustainable urban development. The position offers an opportunity to engage with local communities, government entities, and other stakeholders to ensure that urban planning initiatives are inclusive and effective.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: conducting comprehensive assessments of urban areas to identify needs and opportunities for development; collaborating with local authorities and stakeholders to design and implement urban planning projects; providing technical guidance and support in engineering practices; preparing detailed reports and documentation for project proposals; ensuring compliance with national and international standards in urban development; facilitating workshops and training sessions for local communities and government officials; monitoring and evaluating the progress of urban planning initiatives; and contributing to the development of policy recommendations based on research and analysis.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in urban planning or engineering, with a proven track record of successful project implementation in similar fields. They should demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for this role. Additionally, candidates should have a good understanding of the socio-economic context of Lebanon and the challenges faced in urban development.
Educational Background:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is required. A Master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's competitiveness for the position. Professional certifications or additional training in urban development or project management will be considered an asset.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in urban planning or engineering. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in Lebanon or similar contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures and project management frameworks will be an advantage.
Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory, as these are the primary languages of communication in Lebanon. Proficiency in French or other languages will be considered a plus, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
This position is for national individual consultants and is part of a roster system, meaning that selected candidates will be contacted as needed for specific projects. The contract duration will vary depending on the project requirements. The position is expected to be full-time during project implementation phases. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's remuneration policies.
