Job Overview:
The Senior Specialist in Biodiversity, Bioeconomy and Private Sector Engagement will play a crucial role in advancing UNDP's mission to promote sustainable development through the integration of biodiversity and bioeconomy principles into private sector engagement. This position requires a deep understanding of biodiversity conservation, economic development, and the role of the private sector in achieving sustainable outcomes. The specialist will be expected to develop strategies that align private sector initiatives with biodiversity goals, ensuring that economic activities contribute positively to environmental sustainability. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector entities, to foster partnerships that enhance biodiversity conservation efforts while promoting economic growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies for engaging the private sector in biodiversity and bioeconomy initiatives.
  • Conduct assessments of private sector impacts on biodiversity and identify opportunities for sustainable practices.
  • Facilitate partnerships between UNDP, private sector actors, and other stakeholders to promote biodiversity-friendly investments.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on biodiversity conservation and bioeconomy principles to private sector partners.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of private sector engagement strategies and report on outcomes.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and training sessions to raise awareness and build capacity among private sector stakeholders regarding biodiversity issues.
  • Collaborate with UNDP teams and external partners to align biodiversity initiatives with broader sustainable development goals.
  • Prepare reports and documentation on private sector engagement activities and their impact on biodiversity.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in environmental science, economics, sustainable development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in biodiversity conservation, bioeconomy, and private sector engagement.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess the impacts of economic activities on biodiversity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that promote sustainable practices in the private sector.
  • Familiarity with international biodiversity frameworks and policies.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in environmental science, economics, sustainable development, or a related field. A strong academic background in biodiversity conservation and bioeconomy is essential, along with relevant certifications or training in sustainable development practices.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity conservation, bioeconomy, and private sector engagement. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, and private sector partners is highly desirable.

Languages:

This position is offered as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 30 working days within a 6-month period. The position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location.
