Job Overview: The Associate Project Officer (Gender and Climate Mobility) will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and the direct supervision of the Head of Sub Office (HoSO) in the Marshall Islands. This position is integral to the implementation of the Pacific Climate Mobility Partnerships (PCMP) Programme, which is a regional initiative led by IOM in collaboration with various stakeholders including governments, civil society, and technical agencies. The role involves supporting all aspects of projects and programmes related to gender and inclusion, contributing to implementation planning, coordinating activities, and assisting with reporting. The Associate Project Officer will also be responsible for reviewing project outputs and ensuring that gender-related considerations are integrated into all project activities. This position requires close coordination with the Programme Manager based in Suva, Fiji, and relevant units at IOM Headquarters. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing rights-based, people-centered climate mobility action across the Pacific.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Project Officer include reviewing project documents to identify gaps in gender integration, compiling and drafting training materials to support gender and climate information integration, and organizing data on gender, climate change, and human mobility. The officer will also circulate approved research and good practices to partners, provide administrative support to senior staff, coordinate logistics for events and workshops, and track the status of established project indicators. Additionally, the officer will assist with data collection during field monitoring missions and report any observed delays or compliance issues to the Programme Manager. Other relevant duties may be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in International Relations, Political or Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Administration, Law, or a related field from an accredited institution. Alternatively, a University degree in the aforementioned fields with two years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Significant experience in gender-related work aligned with IOM and donor requirements is essential, along with experience in project development, reporting, and donor liaison. Strong reporting, writing, and research skills related to gender inclusion are required, as well as excellent communication and analytical skills. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of gender mainstreaming in data collection and activity implementation, possess strong interpersonal skills, and have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as International Relations, Political or Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Administration, or Law. Candidates with a University degree in these fields and two years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. Accreditation from institutions listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database is necessary for the educational qualifications.
Experience: The position requires significant experience in gender-related work, particularly in alignment with IOM and donor requirements. Candidates should have substantial experience in applying IOM guidance and regulations related to gender mainstreaming, as well as experience in project development, reporting, and liaising with donors. This experience is crucial for effectively supporting the implementation of gender and climate mobility initiatives.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, working knowledge of another official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish is considered an advantage. Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
