The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership convened by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) that includes governments, intergovernmental organizations, private sector representatives, and civil society members. The coalition aims to facilitate fast action to mitigate climate change and improve air quality, thereby contributing to sustainable development. The CCAC operates globally, engaging with various stakeholders to implement its initiatives and programs effectively. As of October 2023, the CCAC team is also providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge, further expanding its impact and outreach in the climate action space.

Job Overview:
The CCAC Associate Programme Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the CCAC's work by providing organized and substantive assistance across various portfolios. This position involves taking ownership of defined tasks while collaborating with cross-functional teams within the Secretariat. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring that agreed priorities are transformed into timely outputs, effective partner engagement, and accurate information dissemination. The role requires a proactive approach to managing multiple projects and workstreams, conducting research, and preparing essential documents such as briefings, presentations, and meeting materials. The specialist will also maintain workplans and trackers, ensuring that all information is current and accessible to colleagues. This position is vital for the successful delivery of the CCAC's work programme and requires a strong understanding of climate change and air pollution issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the CCAC Associate Programme Specialist include:
  • Supporting the planning and execution of assigned CCAC projects, workstreams, and partnership activities.
  • Conducting research and preparing concise draft briefings, presentations, correspondence, meeting materials, and other substantive products.
  • Maintaining accurate workplans, trackers, databases, document repositories, and records of decisions and follow-up actions.
  • Organizing and following up on meetings, workshops, consultations, and partner engagements.
  • Coordinating routine information flows and follow-ups with governments, implementing partners, experts, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitoring progress, risks, deliverables, and results, including initial review and quality assurance of outputs.
  • Connecting assigned work with relevant country, sector, science, funding, governance, monitoring, communications, and partnership activities.
  • Contributing to knowledge management, process improvement, and consistent ways of working across the Secretariat.
  • Communicating progress, emerging issues, and proposed next steps clearly and promptly to relevant colleagues. 1
  • Providing ad hoc support as part of the CCAC Secretariat team. Performance indicators for this role include the accuracy and organization of assigned outputs, the completeness and usability of trackers and records, the preparation and follow-up of meetings and partner engagements, and the ability to collaborate constructively across functions while addressing risks or bottlenecks in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the CCAC Associate Programme Specialist position include: - An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental science, engineering, international relations, public policy, development studies, programme or project management, communications, or another relevant field. - A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. - A minimum of 2 years of direct professional experience in climate change and air pollution is required. - In-depth knowledge of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) and their connections to climate change, air pollution, and sustainable development is essential. - Experience in multi-stakeholder partnerships and coordination with various organizations or stakeholder groups is required. - Proven ability to prepare clear written products, maintain programme information, and support the delivery of multiple concurrent activities is necessary. - Experience in an international or developing-country context is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as environmental science, engineering, international relations, public policy, development studies, programme or project management, or communications. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate change and air pollution issues and for effectively contributing to the CCAC's objectives.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of direct professional experience in the fields of climate change and air pollution. Candidates should have demonstrated in-depth knowledge of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) and their implications for climate change and air quality. Experience working in multi-stakeholder partnerships and coordinating with various organizations or stakeholder groups is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a proven track record of preparing clear written products and managing multiple concurrent activities, which is vital for the successful execution of the CCAC's work programme. Experience in an international or developing-country context is considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and oral, is required for this position. Additional knowledge of other UN official languages is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders involved in the CCAC's initiatives.
