The team has been primarily managed by a Communications Associate, supplemented by part-time staff and interns during peak periods, indicating a growing need for additional support to maintain consistent public engagement and fundraising efforts.

Job Overview:
The Fundraising Communications Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the media relationship efforts and content development for UNHCR's fundraising initiatives in Hong Kong and Macao. This position is essential for developing effective communication strategies and enhancing media relationships to deliver impactful marketing communications. The assistant will be responsible for creating localized content, following HQ's media resources, and pitching stories to local media to generate interest in refugee-related issues. The role also involves supporting both online and offline fundraising campaigns, ensuring that the organization's messaging is consistent and engaging. This position is structured as a UNOPS role with a renewable contract each calendar year, emphasizing the importance of sustained communication efforts in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Fundraising Communications Assistant will undertake a variety of duties, including:
  • Clerical Support: Collecting press cuttings related to refugee issues and UNHCR's work, maintaining a mailing list for marketing materials, and ensuring timely dispatch of information to media and interested parties.
  • Stock Management: Classifying and maintaining adequate stock of fundraising and marketing materials, promoting the sale of marketing products where appropriate.
  • Event Support: Providing clerical and onsite assistance for events such as poster campaigns, exhibitions, and public awareness events.
  • Content Development: Supporting the development of content for fundraising and marketing materials, both online and offline.
  • Translation Assistance: Translating content between English and Traditional Chinese as needed.
  • Communication Management: Responding to routine inquiries from various stakeholders, including vendors, media, public, NGOs, and government officials.
  • File Maintenance: Keeping fundraising communication files up to date and performing other duties as required.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Reporting to the Assistant PSP Communications Officer, providing bi-weekly updates on work progress, and participating in project evaluations.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Fundraising Communications Assistant position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Education: Completion of Secondary Education is required, with a degree in Business Administration, Journalism, Social Science, or a related field being desirable.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 1 year of working experience is required for candidates with a high school diploma, while those with a bachelor's degree do not require prior experience. Experience in fundraising, public relations, or marketing within the Hong Kong market is preferred. Proven experience in managing donor or customer records within a customer relationship database is also desirable.
  • Key Competencies: Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly MS Word and MS Excel, as well as familiarity with Adobe Photoshop or video editing tools. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with others, are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate strong writing, translation, and interpreting skills, and be capable of working independently and under pressure.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have completed Secondary Education, with a preference for those holding a degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related field. A high school diploma in Communication is also acceptable, but a bachelor's degree is preferred for this role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience for candidates with a high school diploma. However, candidates with a bachelor's degree are not required to have prior experience. Experience in fundraising, public relations, or marketing within the Hong Kong market is highly desirable, as is proven experience in managing donor or customer records within a customer relationship database.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken English and Cantonese is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in Chinese is considered a desirable skill, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified under UNOPS LICA4 and is not remote. The contract is renewable each calendar year, indicating a commitment to long-term engagement. The role does not require a functional clearance and is categorized as a staff member or affiliate type position.
