Job Overview:
The position of Stagiaire chargé(e) de programme Appui aux petits éleveurs agricoles et structuration des organisations des petits éleveurs is designed to support the Integrated Resilience Program (PIR) of WFP in Mauritania. The intern will contribute to the design, implementation, and monitoring of interventions aimed at enhancing food security, livelihoods, and resilience among vulnerable communities. The role focuses on livestock production, specifically in improving animal productivity and the income of beneficiaries through various support activities. The intern will work closely with technical teams to ensure that the interventions are effective and aligned with the overall goals of the program, which seeks to strengthen the resilience of pastoral communities against climatic and economic shocks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a range of responsibilities under the supervision of the Resilience Officer and the Technical Advisor in Livelihoods. Key duties include:

• Technical Support: - Participate in the design and implementation of sheep and cattle fattening activities. - Support the monitoring of beneficiaries engaged in livestock activities. - Identify needs related to animal feed and health. - Provide technical support during awareness campaigns on best livestock practices. - Contribute to the dissemination of improved animal production techniques. - Integrate specific pastoral activities into the resilience program's work plan.
• Data Collection and Monitoring: - Ensure the collection of field data related to fattening activities. - Participate in baseline, monitoring, and evaluation surveys. - Contribute to maintaining and updating databases. - Assist in analyzing the technical and economic performance of fattening activities.
• Capacity Building: - Support the organization and facilitation of training for livestock farmers. - Contribute to the development of training and awareness materials. - Assist community organizations and cooperatives supported by the program. - Identify veterinary kits suitable for the needs of vulnerable smallholders. - Engage veterinary services for livestock vaccination campaigns.
• Reporting: - Prepare mission reports and activity summaries. - Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories. - Contribute to the production of periodic program reports.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria for the WFP internship program, including being a recent graduate in a relevant field within six months prior to application. They should be able to travel and work at the assigned location and must not have direct family ties to WFP employees. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of livestock production techniques, animal feeding practices, and health management. Strong data collection and analysis skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Good writing skills in French are required, and knowledge of Arabic and national languages is an advantage.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or Engineering degree in fields such as Animal Production, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Rural Development, or a related area. This academic foundation is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of livestock management and the socio-economic context of pastoral communities in Mauritania.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory, having an internship or work experience in the livestock sector is considered an asset. Familiarity with pastoral and agro-pastoral systems in Mauritania is highly desirable, as it will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the program's objectives.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of Arabic and local national languages is considered a valuable asset, as it can facilitate better communication with local communities and stakeholders.

This internship is offered for a duration of 3 to 6 months and is based in Bassikounou and Néma, located in the Hodh El Chargui region of Mauritania.
