Job Overview:
The position of Consultant(e) Spécialiste en génie civil involves providing specialized expertise in civil engineering for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Togo. The consultant will be expected to contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of civil engineering projects that align with the UNDP's mission of sustainable development. This role requires a deep understanding of civil engineering principles, project management, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government entities, local communities, and international partners. The consultant will also be responsible for ensuring that all engineering practices comply with local regulations and international standards, thereby promoting safety and sustainability in all projects undertaken.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Consultant(e) Spécialiste en génie civil include but are not limited to: conducting feasibility studies for civil engineering projects; preparing detailed engineering designs and specifications; overseeing construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards; collaborating with project managers and other engineers to ensure timely project delivery; providing technical guidance and support to project teams; conducting site inspections and assessments; preparing reports and documentation related to project progress and outcomes; engaging with local communities and stakeholders to gather input and ensure project alignment with community needs; and contributing to capacity-building initiatives within local institutions related to civil engineering practices.
Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include a degree in civil engineering or a related field, with a strong emphasis on practical experience in civil engineering projects. The consultant should possess a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, project management methodologies, and relevant local and international regulations. Additionally, proficiency in project management software and engineering design tools is essential. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, are also required to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Educational Background:
Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline. A Master's degree or higher qualification in civil engineering or project management is preferred and may enhance the candidate's profile. Continuous professional development and certifications in relevant engineering fields will be considered an asset.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in civil engineering, with a proven track record of successfully managing and executing civil engineering projects. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of development projects, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local context in Togo and previous experience in similar roles will be advantageous.
Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the official language of Togo and the primary language of communication within the UNDP. Proficiency in English is considered a strong asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of local languages may also be beneficial in engaging with local communities.
Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a consultancy role under the Individual Contractor (IC) procurement process. The contract duration is specified for the period of October 2026, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during the contract period, and the position may involve travel within Togo as required for project implementation.
