Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant to Develop the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Operations Manual and Food Waste Training is crucial for enhancing food waste management practices. The consultant will be responsible for creating a comprehensive operations manual that outlines the procedures and best practices for BSF composting. This role involves not only the development of the manual but also the design and implementation of training programs aimed at educating stakeholders on effective food waste management strategies. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and local partners to ensure that the manual is practical, user-friendly, and tailored to the specific needs of the community. The assignment is expected to span from September 15, 2026, to March 15, 2027, with a total of 60 working days allocated for the completion of the tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a range of responsibilities including:
  • Conducting a thorough assessment of current food waste management practices and identifying gaps that can be addressed through BSF composting.
  • Developing a detailed operations manual that includes guidelines for BSF composting, operational procedures, and maintenance of composting facilities.
  • Creating training materials and resources that will facilitate the training of local stakeholders on BSF composting techniques.
  • Organizing and conducting training sessions for various stakeholders, including community members, local government officials, and waste management personnel.
  • Collaborating with UNDP and other partners to ensure the manual and training programs align with local regulations and sustainability goals.
  • Providing ongoing support and consultation during the implementation phase of the BSF composting initiatives.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the training and the operations manual, making adjustments as necessary based on feedback and outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, waste management, or a related field. They should have proven experience in developing training materials and manuals, particularly in the context of composting or waste management. Familiarity with the Black Soldier Fly composting process is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for assessing current practices and developing innovative solutions.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, waste management, agriculture, or a related field is required. A master’s degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline will be considered an advantage. The educational background should include coursework or training related to composting, sustainable agriculture, or waste management practices.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in waste management, environmental consulting, or a related field. Experience in developing training programs and operational manuals is essential. Previous work with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in the context of sustainable development and environmental management, will be highly regarded. Familiarity with the Black Soldier Fly composting process and its application in food waste management is a significant plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and training materials will be developed in English. Knowledge of Filipino or other local languages is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication with local stakeholders and facilitate training sessions.
