Job Overview:
The position of National Consultant in Social Cohesion and Mediation is aimed at recruiting an individual who will work on conflict prevention, community dialogue, and social cohesion in the provinces of Ouaddaï, Sila, and Wadi-Fira in Chad. The consultant will be responsible for facilitating dialogue among community members, identifying conflict triggers, and proposing solutions to enhance social cohesion. This role requires a deep understanding of the local context and the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including community leaders, local authorities, and civil society organizations. The consultant will also be expected to develop strategies that promote peaceful coexistence and mitigate tensions within communities. The mission is set to last for five months, from September 2026 to January 2027, during which the consultant will need to deliver tangible results that contribute to the overall objectives of the UNDP in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments to identify the key issues affecting social cohesion and conflict dynamics in the targeted provinces.
• Facilitate community dialogues and workshops to promote understanding and collaboration among different groups.
• Develop and implement action plans that address identified conflicts and promote social cohesion.
• Collaborate with local stakeholders, including government entities, NGOs, and community organizations, to ensure a coordinated approach to conflict prevention.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions on social cohesion and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Prepare reports and documentation of activities, outcomes, and lessons learned to share with UNDP and other stakeholders.
• Provide training and capacity-building sessions for local actors on conflict resolution and mediation techniques.
• Engage in continuous communication with UNDP and other partners to align efforts and share progress.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a proven ability to work in multicultural environments. A background in social sciences, conflict resolution, or a related field is essential. The consultant should have experience in community engagement and conflict mediation, demonstrating a track record of successful interventions in similar contexts. Familiarity with the socio-political landscape of Chad and the specific provinces of Ouaddaï, Sila, and Wadi-Fira is highly desirable. Additionally, the candidate should be proficient in project management and possess the ability to work independently while also being a team player.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, conflict resolution, international relations, or a related field is required. A master’s degree would be an advantage and may be preferred for this position. Relevant certifications in mediation or conflict resolution are also beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in conflict prevention, community dialogue, or social cohesion initiatives. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of the UN, is highly valued. Proven experience in facilitating community engagement processes and managing projects in challenging environments is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Chad. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the targeted provinces would be advantageous and enhance the consultant's effectiveness in engaging with communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of five months. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during this period, with flexibility in working hours to accommodate community engagements. The position is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
