Job Overview:
The position involves recruiting consultants who will be responsible for developing the National Strategy and Action Plan for the sustainable management of wetlands and peatlands in Cameroon. This role is crucial as it aims to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices in the management of natural resources. The consultants will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and international organizations, to ensure that the strategy is comprehensive and effective. The expected duration of the consultancy is 60 days, during which the consultants will conduct assessments, engage with stakeholders, and draft the necessary documents to guide the sustainable management of wetlands and peatlands in the country. The role requires a deep understanding of environmental policies, sustainable development practices, and the socio-economic context of Cameroon.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultants will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:

• Conducting a thorough analysis of the current state of wetlands and peatlands in Cameroon, including their ecological, social, and economic significance.
• Engaging with local communities, government officials, and other stakeholders to gather input and insights on the management of these areas.
• Developing a comprehensive National Strategy that outlines goals, objectives, and actions for sustainable management.
• Drafting an Action Plan that specifies the steps needed to implement the strategy, including timelines, responsible parties, and resource requirements.
• Ensuring that the strategy aligns with national and international environmental policies and commitments.
• Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Providing guidance and support to government agencies in the implementation of the strategy and action plan.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field. They should have proven experience in developing environmental policies or strategies, particularly in the context of wetlands and peatlands. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience working with diverse stakeholders are essential. Additionally, familiarity with the socio-economic context of Cameroon and relevant national and international environmental frameworks will be highly advantageous. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in wetlands management or sustainable development will be considered an asset. Candidates should also have a strong academic background that supports their expertise in the relevant areas of study.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental management, policy development, or consultancy roles. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in Cameroon or similar contexts will be highly regarded. Proven track record in leading projects related to sustainable resource management, particularly in wetlands and peatlands, is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as the position requires communication with local stakeholders and government entities. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and collaboration with international partners. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Cameroon would be an added advantage, facilitating better engagement with communities.

This consultancy position is for a fixed term of 60 days, and it is expected to be a full-time engagement.
