Job Overview:
The position involves developing a comprehensive strategy and overarching narrative for Umm Qais, a historical site in Jordan, along with subsequent interventions aimed at enhancing its cultural and economic significance. The contractor will be responsible for conducting thorough research, engaging with stakeholders, and formulating actionable plans that align with the broader goals of sustainable development and heritage conservation. The role requires a deep understanding of cultural heritage management, strategic planning, and community engagement, ensuring that the narrative developed resonates with both local and international audiences. The contractor will also need to consider the socio-economic context of Umm Qais and propose initiatives that can stimulate local development while preserving its historical integrity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct a comprehensive analysis of Umm Qais, including its historical, cultural, and socio-economic context.
• Engage with local stakeholders, including community members, government officials, and cultural organizations, to gather insights and perspectives.
• Develop a strategic framework that outlines the vision, goals, and objectives for Umm Qais.
• Create an overarching narrative that effectively communicates the significance of Umm Qais to diverse audiences.
• Propose specific interventions and initiatives that can enhance the site's cultural and economic value.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to UNDP and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with other experts and organizations involved in heritage conservation and sustainable development.
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the strategy and interventions, providing feedback and adjustments as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience in cultural heritage management, strategic planning, or related fields.
• Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear narratives.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders.
• Familiarity with sustainable development principles and practices.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Cultural Heritage Management, Urban Planning, Development Studies, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in project management or community engagement would be advantageous.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in cultural heritage management, strategic planning, or community development is required. Experience working with international organizations or in similar contexts is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate engagement with local stakeholders and enhance the understanding of the cultural context.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 7 months, and it is expected to be a full-time engagement. The position is open to both national and international candidates. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's standards.
