Duties and Responsibilities:
The national researcher will be responsible for the following duties:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in law, particularly in criminal justice and human rights. A thorough understanding of international legal standards and prosecutorial practices is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to effectively present findings to diverse audiences. Familiarity with the Vietnamese legal system and its challenges is highly desirable, as is experience in conducting research or evaluations in a legal context.
Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Law, Criminal Justice, Human Rights, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant discipline will be given preference. Academic qualifications should be complemented by practical experience in legal research or related fields, demonstrating a solid understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of law and justice.
Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in legal research, particularly in areas related to criminal law and human rights. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in a legal capacity will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a proven track record of conducting research that informs policy or legal reforms, showcasing their ability to influence change through evidence-based recommendations.
Languages:
Fluency in both English and Vietnamese is mandatory, as the research will involve extensive documentation and communication in both languages. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those spoken in the selected comparative countries, would be considered an advantage, enhancing the researcher's ability to engage with diverse legal systems and practices.

This position is a contract-based role with a duration from August to December 2026, encompassing a total of 50 working days. The researcher will be expected to work independently while also collaborating with UNDP and other stakeholders.
