Job Overview:
The Technical Officer position within the Division of Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Care (PPC) focuses on advancing health for all by integrating promotion, prevention, and care across various health domains. The role is pivotal in leading global efforts to combat HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). The officer will be responsible for conducting data analyses for global reporting, preparing content for reports, developing data dashboards, and producing customized analyses for various stakeholders. This position requires a proactive approach to data management and collaboration with WHO Member States and external partners to ensure accurate and timely reporting of health-related data.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive data analyses required for global reporting related to HIV, hepatitis, and STIs.
• Prepare and curate content for global reports, including text, graphics, tables, and webpages.
• Develop and manage data dashboards to effectively disseminate key findings from data analyses.
• Produce customized analyses and datasets as requested by other units within HTH, other WHO departments, and external partners.
• Collaborate with UNAIDS to review and validate data collected annually from WHO Member States regarding HIV.
• Review and validate data related to hepatitis and STIs reported to WHO by Member States.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:

• An advanced university degree (Masters level or above) in health and health sciences with substantial content related to data analysis (e.g., epidemiology, medical statistics).
• A first-level university degree in a highly quantitative subject (e.g., mathematics, physics, economics, computer science) is also acceptable.
• A PhD related to communicable diseases is desirable.
• At least seven years of relevant experience in health-related data collection, validation, review, analysis, and reporting.
• A minimum of two years of experience in developing web-based, data-driven reports using R and associated packages (shiny, R Markdown, ggplot2).
• Experience in conducting research studies and a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Two years of experience working on projects related to developing countries and exposure to international organizations is preferred.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters level or above) in a relevant field related to health and health sciences, with a strong emphasis on data analysis. A first-level university degree in a quantitative discipline is also acceptable. A PhD in communicable diseases is considered an asset.

Experience:
The position requires at least seven years of experience in the field of health-related data management, including collection, validation, review, analysis, and reporting. Candidates should have at least two years of experience in developing web-based reports using R and its packages. Experience in conducting research studies and a proven publication record in peer-reviewed journals is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience working on projects related to developing countries and collaborating with governmental, academic, and international organizations.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. Intermediate knowledge of French is desirable, as it may facilitate communication within the international context of the role.

Additional Notes:
The remuneration for this position starts at an annual base salary of USD 86,027, with additional variable post adjustments reflecting the cost of living in Geneva. Benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
