Job Overview: The UN Driver position is crucial for the operational efficiency of the UN Resident Coordination Office in Kabul, Afghanistan. The incumbent will be responsible for safely transporting authorized personnel and, in some cases, general cargo or specialized hazardous goods. This role requires a strong understanding of driving regulations and the local area, as well as the ability to handle various logistical tasks such as making deliveries, minor purchases, and facilitating customs formalities. The driver will also maintain the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is in good working condition and clean. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the UN Driver include:
Safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and cargo.
Making regular deliveries of parcels and documents between the UN office and other institutions, such as ministries and embassies.
Conducting minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers as requested.
Facilitating customs formalities and making payments for goods when necessary.
Meeting official personnel at the airport and assisting with immigration and customs procedures.
Maintaining effective and tactful communication with officials and visitors.
Performing routine maintenance checks on the assigned vehicle, including oil, water, battery, and tire checks, and arranging for repairs as needed.
Logging official trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
Following established procedures in case of accidents. 1
Assisting with data collection and analysis, as well as preparing presentations and reports. 1
Updating information materials such as web pages or brochures. 1
Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a valid National Driver's License and a high school diploma or equivalent. A relevant first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience. Candidates must demonstrate a safe driving record and the ability to drive various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience working with the United Nations or other international organizations is desirable. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with local roads and conditions.
Educational Background: Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A relevant first-level university degree may substitute for two years of required experience, indicating that educational qualifications can be flexible depending on the applicant's experience.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Candidates should have experience driving a variety of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience with the United Nations or any international organizations is considered an asset, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational context of the UN.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in English is required, with a minimum level of II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking according to the UN Language Framework. Additionally, either Pashto or Dari is required, also at a minimum level of II. Additional Notes: This is a Fixed Term position, initially for one year, with the possibility of extension subject to budgetary approval and availability of funds.
