Global Initiative Facilitator

The organization operates through a steering committee that includes various stakeholders such as the Ministry Agrarian Development and Family Farming (MDA) of Brazil, FAO/Forest and Farm Facility (FFF), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Agroecology Coalition, The Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT (CGIAR), and NOW Partners Foundation. TERRA's mission is to foster sustainable agricultural practices and improve rural livelihoods through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions.

Job Overview:
The Global Initiative Facilitator is tasked with supporting the implementation of the TERRA initiative at a global level. This role involves ensuring strategic alignment among founding members, institutional partners, target territories, and other key stakeholders. The Facilitator acts as the primary focal point for global coordination, fostering dialogue, collaboration, and consensus-building among diverse actors. The position requires facilitating policy, technical, and operational processes that advance the agendas of productive forests, agroecology, restoration, and sustainable rural development. The Facilitator will also be responsible for governance, monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes, ensuring the generation of strategic information to inform decision-making and adaptive management. Regular reporting to the six founding members of PAS TERRA is required, providing updates on implementation progress, challenges, emerging opportunities, and strategic recommendations to support collective governance and the consolidation of the initiative at a global scale.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Global Initiative Facilitator include supporting the implementation and coordination of TERRA priorities, facilitating and supporting founding organizations and country partners in executing agreed priorities and activities, and promoting peer-to-peer learning and knowledge-sharing among TERRA constituencies. The Facilitator will also facilitate policy, technical, and operational processes under the supervision of the Steering Committee (SC), develop and monitor the annual work plan and budget for SC approval, and provide regular updates on progress and challenges. Additionally, the role involves supporting the development of TERRA’s resource mobilization strategy, strengthening national and international partnerships, managing potential conflicts of interest, organizing regular meetings of the SC and TERRA partners, and drafting documents for SC discussion and approval. The Facilitator will also elaborate monitoring reports on TERRA activities and ensure compliance with FAO standards and guidelines in all communication materials.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Rural Development, Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, Public Administration, Project Management, or a related field. They should have at least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in designing, coordinating, and implementing programs related to sustainable rural development, agroecology, productive forests, landscape restoration, climate action, biodiversity conservation, or related fields. A working knowledge (level C) of English and Portuguese is required, and candidates must be nationals of Brazil. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in building strategic partnerships and mobilizing financial and technical resources from various donors and development partners, as well as experience in results-based management, strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL). Previous experience in international organizations or development cooperation agencies is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Rural Development, Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, Public Administration, or Project Management. This advanced degree is essential for understanding the complexities of sustainable rural development and agroecology, as well as for effectively engaging with various stakeholders in the field.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in relevant areas such as sustainable rural development, agroecology, productive forests, and climate action. This experience should include designing, coordinating, and implementing programs and initiatives that align with the goals of TERRA. Experience in multi-stakeholder facilitation and coordination, particularly with government entities, donors, producer organizations, indigenous peoples, civil society organizations, and research institutions, is also crucial. Proven experience in facilitating policy dialogue and governance processes at various levels is highly valued.

Languages:
The mandatory language requirements for this position include a working knowledge of English and Portuguese. Knowledge of additional languages such as French, Spanish, German, or Mandarin would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and partners in the global context of agroecology and sustainable development.
