Job Overview:
The MEAL Assistant – Data Collection plays a crucial role in the effective implementation of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) exercises through data collection, cleaning, and reporting. This position is essential for supporting the MEAL team in ensuring that data collected is accurate, consistent, and of high quality. The MEAL Assistant will assist in compiling surveys and tools to monitor the achievement of indicators, thereby contributing to the overall success of the projects. The role requires a proactive approach to data management and analysis, ensuring that the information gathered is utilized effectively to inform decision-making and improve project outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the MEAL Assistant include:
  • Data Collection: Support the MEAL team in conducting data collection through various methods, including phone calls, and ensure that data is uploaded onto relevant information management platforms.
  • Data Review and Uploads: Regularly update tools and trackers for data collection, ensuring that all data is accurately uploaded onto data collection platforms. Modify and edit any inaccuracies found in the data.
  • Data Analysis: Assist in the initial analysis of collected data, identifying project results, impacts, success factors, and gaps, particularly related to youth employability and startup performance.
  • Accountability: Ensure that beneficiaries are treated with respect and confidentiality during interviews, handling all data and information as strictly confidential and not sharing it with third parties without prior written approval.
  • Learning: Engage in continuous learning and feedback loops with the project team to enhance data reliability and analytical skills, contributing to organizational learning by supporting project learning events.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • Familiarity with digital data collection methodologies and platforms, specifically KoboToolbox.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A self-motivated and organized approach, with a proven ability to manage time and personal work plans effectively.
  • A strong commitment to humanitarian principles and values.
  • An undergraduate degree in development studies, international relations, economics, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and Arabic is mandatory, while a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, humanities, quantitative/qualitative research methods, public health, or any other related field is also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as development studies, international relations, economics, social sciences, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the methodologies used in data collection and analysis.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have prior experience working with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), particularly in roles related to monitoring and evaluation, data collection, or similar functions. This experience is crucial for understanding the operational context and challenges faced in humanitarian settings.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken French and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in English is considered a strong asset, enhancing communication capabilities within the organization and with international stakeholders.

This position offers an open-ended contract with a 6-month probation period and is classified as part-time. The designated duty station is Tunis, Tunisia, with a suggested start date in September 202
