Job Overview:
The Senior Environmental Health/WASH Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Environmental Health (EH) and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming in South Kordofan and West Kordofan. This role involves providing technical and strategic leadership to ensure high-quality programming that meets the immediate needs of affected populations. The position requires regular travel to field sites and reports directly to the Sudan West director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director of Programs. The manager will coordinate with various stakeholders to develop and implement effective responses to assessed EH/WASH needs, ensuring alignment with the Sudan Strategic Action Plan and donor requirements. The role also includes leading teams in developing work plans, improving program quality, and supporting local implementing partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Manager will coordinate with the Deputy Director of Programs to develop and implement responses to EH/WASH needs, oversee technical aspects of program implementation, and ensure timely and professional execution of projects. Responsibilities include leading EH/WASH teams in work plan development, ensuring integration with other sectors, improving technical approaches, supporting local partners, leading emergency responses, assessing staff development needs, ensuring timely reporting, managing budgets, implementing monitoring and evaluation systems, mentoring staff, establishing contacts with NGOs and ministries, representing IRC in meetings, and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess proven technical skills with a university degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in EH, WASH, or civil engineering is required, along with at least 3 years in a humanitarian setting. Demonstrated experience in technical design of water supply systems, sanitation infrastructure, and health care waste management is essential. Strong project planning, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are necessary, along with proficiency in English. While Arabic is not mandatory, it is considered an advantage. Candidates should exhibit strong leadership skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to staff training and development.
Educational Background:
A university degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of EH/WASH programming and ensuring effective implementation of projects.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in Environmental Health, WASH, or civil engineering, with at least 3 years in a humanitarian context. Candidates should have a proven track record in technical design and project management within challenging environments, demonstrating the ability to adapt to complex situations and prioritize effectively.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, with strong written and verbal communication skills. While Arabic is not required, having knowledge of the language would be a distinct advantage, especially in enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
