Job Overview:
The Associate Director, Deputy Head of Egypt, Financial Institutions (FI) plays a crucial role in supporting the Managing Director of SEMED and the Director of FI MEA in executing the Bank's strategy for the financial sector in Egypt. This position is designed to enhance the EBRD's presence and effectiveness in the Egyptian financial market by developing new business opportunities, managing relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring the successful implementation of financial sector projects. The incumbent will work in a dynamic environment, requiring a blend of strategic oversight, operational management, and stakeholder engagement to drive the Bank's objectives in Egypt. The role demands a high level of maturity, extensive experience in transactional banking, and the ability to navigate complex interactions with various internal and external parties.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership & Oversight: Support the SEMED Managing Director in implementing the country strategy and achieving annual targets. Jointly responsible for the delivery of the Egypt Scorecard and the FI Egypt Scorecard. Act as the senior point of contact for financial sector clients, developing new business in alignment with the Country Strategy. Collaborate with other Deputy Heads to ensure an integrated approach to the Bank’s operations in Egypt. Provide oversight for the origination and execution of investment projects, ensuring alignment with the Bank’s mission. Lead initiatives to enhance EBRD’s footprint in the Egyptian financial sector, onboarding new clients, and managing public relations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Representation: Build strong relationships with stakeholders to maintain the Bank’s visibility and leadership in private sector development. Coordinate stakeholder engagement efforts regarding policy developments impacting the financial sector. Represent the Bank at external forums and engage with business associations and the media.
  • Operational Management: Drive business operations to maximize the impact of the Bank’s financial sector activities. Oversee the project pipeline, ensuring efficient deal origination and execution. Supervise transaction execution and ensure compliance with policies and best practices. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate financing and advisory activities.
  • Risk & Compliance Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to the Bank’s operations in Egypt. Ensure compliance with local regulations and EBRD’s operational guidelines.
  • Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting: Accountable for the delivery of annual credit reviews and continuous monitoring of credit risk profiles. Supervise implementation and reporting on technical assistance assignments.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and develop a multi-disciplinary team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. Champion the Bank’s values and ensure high standards of integrity and ethical conduct.

Required Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of EBRD’s operational guidelines and best practices, particularly in relation to project implementation and risk management.
  • Strong understanding of financial sector dynamics in Egypt, including private sector investment and governance.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and contribute to high-level decision-making.
  • Exceptional networking and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in managing financial sector projects from origination to execution.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and compliance requirements.
  • Integrity and ethical conduct, serving as a role model for the Bank’s core values.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, finance, or a related field is required. A higher degree in a similar discipline is desirable, reflecting a strong academic foundation relevant to the financial sector.

Experience:
Candidates should possess extensive experience in the financial sector, particularly in roles that involve strategic leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement. Experience in managing complex financial transactions and a proven track record of developing and executing financial sector strategies is essential. The role requires a deep understanding of the economic landscape in Egypt and the ability to navigate its challenges and opportunities effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the Bank. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, as it facilitates engagement with local stakeholders and enhances the effectiveness of the role.

This position is a full-time role with a fixed-term contract lasting four years, with the potential for renewal for an additional four years.
