Job Overview:
The Principal Adviser to the Managing Director (MD) is a pivotal role within the MD’s Front Office, responsible for providing strategic advice and support on a variety of management, operational, and strategic topics relevant to the MD’s countries of operation. This position requires a high level of commitment to the EBRD's mandate and institutional goals, as well as the ability to foster an environment that encourages technical excellence. The Principal Adviser will assist the MD in managing the administrative operations of the Front Office and will play a crucial role in coordinating with Regional Directors and Heads of Countries on operational and strategic tasks. The role also involves acting as an interface between the MD’s front office and various internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across departments and with external parties.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal Adviser will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: managing operational responsibilities by working closely with Regional Directors and Heads of Offices on policy and operational issues; supporting the MD in administrative operations, including budget functions and HR activities; preparing regular portfolio and pipeline development reports to facilitate decision-making; ensuring the quality of project records and data maintenance; representing the MD at meetings and events; preparing briefing packages for high-level missions; overseeing the Groups' portfolio performance; and organizing regional meetings and events. Additionally, the Principal Adviser will participate in Bank-wide discussions on strategic issues, contribute to policy and strategic initiatives, and assist in business development efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess principal-level experience in investment, finance, or policy, with a strong understanding of the EBRD's mandate and processes. A relevant university degree is essential, along with proven leadership, management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Candidates should demonstrate sound business judgment, high ethical standards, and the ability to manage and complete complex transactions or policy projects. Excellent time and project management skills, as well as strong business report writing abilities, are also required. Proficiency in English, both written and oral, is mandatory, and relevant geographical experience is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A relevant university degree is required for this position, ideally in fields related to finance, economics, business administration, or public policy. Advanced degrees such as a Master's or MBA may be preferred, as they can provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in banking and regional operations.

Experience:
Candidates should have significant experience at a principal level, with a strong background in investment, finance, or policy. This experience should include a sound understanding of banking operations and regional management, as well as a proven track record of managing complex projects and transactions. The ideal candidate will have experience working in international financial institutions or similar environments, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex organizational structures and stakeholder relationships.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the EBRD. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly in languages relevant to the regions in which the EBRD operates, such as Arabic, Russian, or other regional languages, as they can enhance communication with local stakeholders and partners.
