Job Overview:
The position of Consultant is part of a project titled 'Closing the Digital Divide: Ensuring Gender-Transformative Digital Skills Education for Women and Girls', which is a collaborative initiative between UNESCO, Beijing Normal University, and the Government of Tanzania. The project aims to enhance gender equality in digital education by addressing systemic barriers that hinder the participation of women and girls in ICT and technology. The Consultant will play a crucial role in implementing gender-responsive and gender-transformative approaches within ICT Clubs established in schools, ensuring that girls are empowered to engage in digital learning and develop their skills in a supportive environment. The Consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including teachers, mentors, and school authorities, to facilitate the integration of gender-sensitive practices in educational settings, thereby fostering an inclusive atmosphere that encourages girls' leadership and participation in ICT.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will be responsible for providing technical support in the implementation of gender-responsive approaches in ICT Clubs across five assigned schools. This includes co-designing and executing gender-transformative activities, mentoring teachers and school staff, monitoring the progress of gender integration in project activities, and documenting outcomes and challenges. The Consultant will also facilitate workshops, mentorship programs, and other extracurricular initiatives aimed at enhancing girls' confidence and skills in ICT. Regular reporting to the Lead Gender Expert on the progress and challenges faced in the assigned schools will be a key responsibility, ensuring that the project objectives are met effectively.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Gender Studies, Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field. A minimum of five years of professional experience in gender equality, girls' empowerment, and gender-transformative programming is required. Experience in integrating gender into educational programs, particularly in ICT and STEM, is essential. Familiarity with working in school environments and engaging with adolescents, teachers, and community stakeholders is crucial. Experience with government institutions or international organizations is considered an advantage.
Educational Background:
A university degree in a relevant field such as Gender Studies, Education, Social Sciences, or Development Studies is mandatory for this position. The educational background should reflect a strong understanding of gender issues and educational methodologies that promote inclusivity and empowerment.
Experience:
The position requires at least five years of professional experience in areas related to gender equality and empowerment, particularly within educational contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of integrating gender considerations into educational and community development programs, demonstrating their ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including schools and community organizations.
Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and reporting within the project framework, as well as for engaging with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is set for a duration of three months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. The role is open to external candidates and is classified as a Level 2 Consultant position. The work can be conducted remotely, allowing for flexibility in execution.
