The Finance Officer position at WFP is crucial for supporting the stewardship of the organization’s resources. Specific duties include monitoring budgets, conducting financial forecasting, performing bank reconciliations, managing cash flow, and ensuring timely financial closures. The officer will also deliver core administrative services, assist with human resource functions related to staff benefits and recruitment, and prepare accurate financial reports for management. Additionally, the Finance Officer will track data to improve policies and procedures, support financial controls, and represent the unit at internal and external meetings. The role may also involve guiding junior staff and ensuring compliance with emergency preparedness practices.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related fields. Alternatively, a first university degree in the same subjects combined with additional years of relevant work experience and membership in a recognized professional accountancy body (such as ACCA or CPA) is acceptable. The role requires fluency in English and the local language of the duty station, if applicable. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of financial management principles.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related fields. A first university degree in these areas, along with significant relevant work experience and professional accountancy qualifications, is also acceptable. This educational foundation is essential for performing the complex financial analyses and management tasks required in this role.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have experience performing basic financial analyses at a national or operational level and managing financial transactions. This experience is critical for ensuring that the Finance Officer can effectively contribute to the financial management and reporting processes within WFP. Candidates with a background in humanitarian or development finance will be particularly well-suited for this role.
Languages:
