Job Overview: As a NursingVolunteer Medical Specialist with MSF’s Telemedicine Program, you will play a crucial role in providing remote medical and clinical support to MSF’s global medical teams. This position allows you to work asynchronously, meaning you can provide your expertise at your convenience, which is particularly beneficial for those with limited time availability. Your primary responsibility will be to review and respond to patient cases assigned to you through a secure Telemedicine Platform. This role is vital as it helps bridge the gap in healthcare access, especially in remote and resource-limited settings where MSF operates. By volunteering, you will directly contribute to improving patient outcomes and supporting frontline medical teams in making informed clinical decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review patient cases assigned to you on the Telemedicine Platform and provide timely medical or clinical advice within 24 hours.
Ensure that all medical advice aligns with MSF guidelines and is suitable for low-resource settings.
Provide ongoing follow-up on assigned cases until they are resolved, ensuring continuity of care.
Collaborate with other Medical Specialists assigned to the same case, sharing your specialized expertise to enhance the collective medical knowledge within the MSF community.
Maintain clear and professional communication with both patients and medical teams, ensuring that all interactions are documented appropriately.
Participate in training and onboarding sessions to familiarize yourself with the Telemedicine Program and its operational protocols.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 4 years of post-qualification work experience in your medical specialty is required.
A university degree or higher in a medical specialty is mandatory.
Active registration and certification with your professional regulatory body is essential.
Candidates must be comfortable using technology and navigating online platforms effectively.
Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required for this position.
Fluency in additional languages such as Arabic, French, or Spanish is highly desirable and will be considered an asset.
Previous experience with MSF or in low-resource settings is highly desirable, as it demonstrates an understanding of the challenges faced in such environments.
Training in Tropical Medicine is considered an asset, enhancing your ability to provide relevant medical advice in diverse contexts.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree or higher in a medical specialty relevant to nursing. This educational background is crucial as it ensures that the volunteer has the necessary knowledge and skills to provide effective medical support. Continuous professional development and additional certifications in specialized areas of nursing may also be beneficial and are encouraged.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of post-qualification work experience in the nursing field. This experience should ideally include work in diverse healthcare settings, particularly those that are resource-limited or in crisis situations. Familiarity with telemedicine practices and remote patient care is advantageous, as it aligns with the responsibilities of the role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in this language. Additionally, fluency in Arabic, French, or Spanish is highly desirable, as it can enhance communication with a broader range of patients and medical teams, particularly in regions where these languages are spoken.
Additional Notes: This is a fully remote volunteer position, allowing individuals to contribute from anywhere with a reliable internet connection. The time commitment is up to 3 hours per week, providing flexibility for volunteers. Successful candidates will be required to sign a Volunteer Agreement that includes clauses on data privacy, non-disclosure, and medical liability. Onboarding will involve an overview of the Telemedicine Program and platform training, which is self-paced and takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Candidates may also need to complete a background check and provide three professional references, which will only be contacted with the candidate's permission.
