Job Posting Organization:
Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. Established in 1971, MSF operates in over 70 countries worldwide, employing thousands of staff, including medical professionals, logistical experts, and administrative personnel. The organization is committed to delivering emergency medical aid and advocating for the rights of those in need, ensuring that healthcare is accessible to all, regardless of their circumstances.

Job Overview:
As a Mental Health Volunteer Medical Specialist within MSF’s Telemedicine Program, you will play a crucial role in providing remote medical and clinical support to MSF’s global medical teams. This position allows for flexibility, as support is provided asynchronously through a secure Telemedicine Platform. Your expertise will be vital in reviewing and responding to patient cases, ensuring that frontline medical teams receive timely and informed clinical advice. This role is particularly important in remote and resource-limited settings where access to specialized medical expertise can significantly impact patient outcomes. By volunteering, you will contribute to improving healthcare access and quality for isolated communities, making a meaningful difference in their lives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review patient cases assigned to you on the Telemedicine Platform and provide timely medical or clinical advice within 24 hours.
  • Ensure that all advice aligns with MSF guidelines and is appropriate for low-resource settings.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up on assigned cases until they are resolved, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with other Medical Specialists assigned to the case, sharing your specialized expertise to enhance the collective medical knowledge within the MSF community.
  • Maintain accurate records of your consultations and interactions on the Telemedicine Platform.
  • Participate in training and onboarding sessions to familiarize yourself with the Telemedicine Program and its operational protocols.

Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification work experience in your medical specialty.
  • A university degree or higher in a medical specialty.
  • Active registration and certification with your professional regulatory body.
  • Proficiency in using technology and navigating online platforms effectively.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required.
  • Fluency in additional languages such as Arabic, French, or Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with MSF or in low-resource settings is highly desirable.
  • Training in Tropical Medicine is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree or higher in a relevant medical specialty. This educational background is essential to ensure that the volunteer can provide informed and accurate medical advice to MSF’s medical teams.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification work experience in the candidate's medical specialty. This level of experience is crucial for ensuring that the volunteer can effectively contribute to the Telemedicine Program and provide high-quality support to frontline medical teams.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in this language. Additionally, proficiency in Arabic, French, or Spanish is highly desirable and may enhance the candidate's ability to communicate with diverse teams and patients.

Additional Notes:
This is a fully remote volunteer position, allowing individuals to contribute from anywhere with a reliable internet connection. Successful candidates will be required to sign a Volunteer Agreement that includes clauses on data privacy, non-disclosure, and medical liability. Onboarding will involve an overview of the Telemedicine Program and platform training, which is self-paced and takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Candidates may also need to complete a background check and provide three professional references, which will only be contacted with the candidate's permission. While the recruitment for this position is currently not active, applications are still welcomed and will be reviewed for future opportunities.
