Job Overview: The Partnerships Officer is a pivotal role within the UN Resident Coordination Office in Georgetown, Guyana. This position is responsible for providing strategic support for the development and implementation of partnerships that align with the UN's Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The officer will work closely with the Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team (UNCT) to facilitate partnerships with civil society, the private sector, and other stakeholders to achieve the SDGs. The role involves advising on partnership strategies, coordinating resource mobilization initiatives, and ensuring effective engagement with various partners to enhance development cooperation. The Partnerships Officer will also contribute to knowledge management and capacity development related to partnerships and resource mobilization at the country level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with the provision of substantive support for strategic planning and coordination of UNCT strategic partnerships, including advising on the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy.
Support the establishment of working groups for effective implementation and monitoring of partnership strategies.
Liaise with UN entities and external stakeholders to define value propositions for local partnerships.
Provide substantive support to the Resident Coordinator and UNCT in identifying risks and opportunities related to partnerships.
Participate in joint partnership and resource mobilization initiatives, including the management of pooled funds for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
Work closely with finance experts to promote partnerships that support financing for the SDGs.
Contribute to knowledge management and capacity development related to partnerships and resource mobilization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in strategic support to partnerships, project/programme management, and resource mobilization in development cooperation. Experience in designing and implementing partnerships, as well as preparing project proposals, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in developing strategic partnerships across various sectors, including government, private sector, and civil society organizations. Knowledge of inclusion strategies that promote gender equality and youth participation is desirable, along with experience in UN interagency coordination and financing of SDGs.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, education, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics or related fields is an advantage.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in strategic support to partnerships, project/programme management, and resource mobilization. Candidates should have a proven track record in designing and implementing partnerships, as well as experience in developing resource mobilization strategies and preparing project proposals. Experience in promoting knowledge management in development cooperation is also desirable.
Languages: English is the mandatory language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, but not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This is a Fixed Term position available for a duration of one year, with no expectation of renewal. The position is open to nationals of Guyana only, and candidates must be recruited within the country or commuting distance of the office.
