Job Overview:
The Compliance Due Diligence Internship at Mercy Corps offers a unique opportunity for students or recent graduates to engage with the Compliance Department. The intern will play a crucial role in strengthening and streamlining donor due diligence processes across the organization. This position provides insight into the policies, processes, and approaches utilized by various departments within Mercy Corps. The intern will be responsible for leading the consolidation, review, and update of standard due diligence responses, developing a donor due diligence Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and assessing opportunities for AI-enabled automation. Additionally, the intern will support compliance-related updates associated with organizational rebranding and change initiatives. This role involves collaboration with multiple teams across the organization, providing a comprehensive understanding of how compliance functions within a global humanitarian and development context.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: consolidating current standard due diligence responses and recent due diligence exercises; updating the suite of standard due diligence responses by reviewing the current package and coordinating with relevant functions for updated responses; developing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the donor due diligence process; scoping opportunities for automation or tools that can enhance process efficiency; potentially delivering outputs related to rebranding activities for due diligence responses; and developing a centralized repository for completed due diligence exercises. The intern will also engage in meetings with colleagues across various departments and countries, enhancing their understanding of the organization's operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational and analytical skills, with a keen interest in compliance, governance, and process improvement. They should have strong research and communication abilities, as well as stakeholder engagement skills. The ideal candidate must be able to manage multiple workstreams independently while exploring innovative solutions, including AI-enabled process automation. Attention to detail, the ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and work cooperatively with team members are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with technology solutions or automation tools are advantageous.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have recently completed a university degree, preferably in Law, Business, or a related field. Some experience working with policies, procedures, or contracts would be beneficial, providing a foundational understanding of compliance and governance.

Experience:
The internship is suitable for students or recent graduates who have some experience or coursework related to compliance, governance, or process improvement. While specific work experience is not mandatory, familiarity with policies and procedures will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent writing skills required. The ability to communicate effectively in English is crucial for this role, given the international nature of the organization and its operations.

Additional Notes:
This internship is based in the Edinburgh office and is expected to provide a full-time commitment. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK by the start date of the internship.
