Job Overview:
The Consultant for Influencing Learning Journey will play a crucial role in designing and delivering a comprehensive learning experience aimed at enhancing the influencing capabilities of colleagues within the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance (ZCRA). This consultancy is part of a broader initiative to improve the systems and policies that affect climate resilience. The consultant will be responsible for creating an interactive learning journey that includes strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and partnership skills, all aimed at empowering participants to effectively influence decision-makers and enhance their advocacy efforts. The learning journey will consist of four sessions, each tailored to address specific topics identified through a recent review of influencing strategies. The consultant will need to ensure that the sessions are engaging, informative, and applicable to the day-to-day work of the participants, ultimately contributing to stronger country-level influencing efforts across the Alliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will be tasked with several key activities, including: reviewing existing Alliance materials and findings from the influencing review; designing the content and facilitation approach for a series of four interactive workshops; developing accompanying materials to support participants in applying their learning beyond the workshops; delivering each of the workshops twice to accommodate different time zones; and collaborating closely with Mercy Corps colleagues throughout the process. The consultant will also be responsible for creating practical tools and resources, such as message templates, stakeholder mapping templates, media briefing notes, and case studies, to enhance the learning experience and ensure that participants can effectively implement their new skills in real-world scenarios.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate expertise in advocacy, influencing, and campaigning, with a strong understanding of effective advocacy principles and strategies across various audiences and contexts. Extensive experience in designing and delivering engaging online advocacy training is essential, along with the ability to adapt content to suit different levels of knowledge and experience. Proven skills in developing high-quality, practical online learning resources that are accessible and engaging are required. Strong facilitation skills are necessary, with experience in delivering interactive virtual workshops that encourage participation and discussion. Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of advocacy within charities, NGOs, membership organizations, or the public sector is also important. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory, and additional language skills, particularly in Spanish, would be advantageous.
Educational Background:
A relevant educational background in fields such as international development, public policy, communications, or a related discipline is preferred. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of climate resilience and advocacy principles, as well as experience in adult learning methodologies and instructional design.
Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience in advocacy and influencing, with a proven track record of designing and delivering training programs. Candidates should have extensive experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders, particularly in international contexts. Experience in developing online learning resources and facilitating virtual workshops is essential, as is a demonstrated ability to engage participants effectively and adapt content to meet their needs.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all training materials and sessions will be conducted in English. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish, is considered a valuable asset that could enhance the consultant's ability to engage with a broader audience within the Alliance.

This consultancy is a short-term position, with a timeframe spanning from August to January, during which the consultant will be expected to deliver multiple workshops and associated materials. The role is designed to be remote, allowing for flexibility in participation across different time zones. The consultant will report to the Policy Advisor and work closely with other members of the ZCRA team, including the Senior Advocacy Advisor. The position is part-time, and candidates are encouraged to submit a financial proposal outlining their daily rate and the number of days proposed for the consultancy.
