Job Overview:
The UNV Specialist in Health and Nutrition will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of integrated health and nutrition interventions in municipalities affected by a humanitarian emergency in Carabobo, Venezuela. This position is vital in ensuring that UNICEF's emergency response is effective and coordinated, particularly in the wake of significant earthquakes that have severely impacted health and nutrition services. The specialist will be responsible for identifying needs, analyzing service delivery gaps, and proposing corrective actions to strengthen health and nutrition responses. This role requires regular visits to affected municipalities and collaboration with local authorities and humanitarian partners to restore essential services and promote maternal and child health.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UNV Specialist will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: supporting the planning and implementation of health and nutrition interventions; ensuring integrated emergency responses in prioritized municipalities; conducting regular visits to assess needs and service gaps; identifying and analyzing coverage and quality issues in health and nutrition services; supporting the establishment and strengthening of health service points; enhancing the capacities of local authorities and health personnel through training; promoting adequate conditions for maternal and child care; contributing to the restoration of primary health services; implementing integrated health and nutrition intervention packages; coordinating with local authorities and partners; monitoring the implementation of activities; collecting and analyzing health and nutrition data; preparing technical reports and updates; and maintaining communication with health authorities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative spirit. They should demonstrate adaptability to changing conditions and a commitment to accountability. The ideal candidate will have experience in emergency health and nutrition programs, as well as a deep understanding of community dynamics and the ability to work effectively in challenging environments. Knowledge of UNICEF's policies and procedures is an advantage, along with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.

Educational Background:
A degree in public health, nutrition, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in health and nutrition, particularly in emergency contexts, are highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of health systems, nutrition interventions, and maternal and child health principles.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in health and nutrition programming, particularly in emergency settings. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or UN agencies is preferred. Familiarity with the Venezuelan context and previous work in humanitarian responses will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Venezuela. Proficiency in English is desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and coordination with international partners. Knowledge of indigenous languages spoken in the region could be an advantage.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national assignment with the UN Volunteers program, meaning the volunteer will be responsible for their own accommodation and essential living conditions. The role requires regular presence in shelters, temporary camps, and affected communities, and operational conditions may change rapidly.
