Job Overview:
The position involves serving as an individual consultant tasked with the review and analysis of the digital platform for community tourism managed by SECTUR (Secretaría de Turismo). The primary objective is to integrate geospatial fields (cartography) into the platform and enhance its overall functionality. The consultant will be responsible for assessing the existing structure, which is built on WordPress, and will work on strengthening it by incorporating georeferencing tools, optimizing user experience, improving territorial visualization, ensuring interoperability of information, and implementing technological enhancements to ensure stable and secure operation. This role is crucial for the ongoing project aimed at conserving biodiversity in the tourism sector, particularly focusing on coastal ecosystems. The estimated duration of the consultancy is four months, starting in August 2026 and concluding in December 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be expected to perform a comprehensive review of the SECTUR digital platform, focusing on the following duties:
  • Conduct an in-depth analysis of the current functionalities of the community tourism platform.
  • Identify areas for improvement and propose solutions for integrating geospatial fields into the platform.
  • Develop a plan for enhancing user experience, including interface design and navigation.
  • Implement georeferencing tools to improve the platform's mapping capabilities.
  • Ensure that the platform's information is interoperable with other systems and databases.
  • Collaborate with the project coordination unit to align the platform enhancements with project objectives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on progress to the project supervisor.
  • Ensure that all enhancements meet the technical and operational requirements set forth by the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in digital platform development, particularly with experience in WordPress. They should have expertise in geospatial analysis and cartography, as well as a solid understanding of user experience design principles. Additionally, familiarity with information interoperability standards and technologies is essential. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Excellent communication skills are also necessary to collaborate with project stakeholders and present findings clearly.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Geography, or a related discipline is required. A master's degree in a relevant area would be an advantage. Candidates should have formal training or certifications in geospatial technologies and digital platform development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in digital platform development, with a focus on geospatial applications. Experience working with community tourism projects or in the tourism sector is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully implementing similar projects will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the primary language of the project and communication will be in Spanish. Proficiency in English is considered a good to have, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and access to additional resources.
