Job Overview:
The Database Management Officer will be responsible for designing, managing, and training on databases, including the mapping of gender-based violence (GBV) within the ONU Femmes Senegal office. This role involves overseeing the use, maintenance, and technical support of databases, planning and supervising data collection, entry, and verification, and producing standard reports. The officer will analyze and respond to reporting requests from ONU Femmes staff, facilitate additional data collection activities, and provide training to staff on database management. The position is crucial in ensuring that the databases are functional, reliable, and secure, and that they meet the needs expressed by the country office. The officer will also contribute to the broader goals of ONU Femmes by enhancing their understanding of volunteerism and participating in relevant activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills in developing information systems, with the ability to conduct business analyses, identify issues, and formulate recommendations. Proficiency in SQL, database administration, and data management is essential. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication skills, particularly in a multicultural and multiethnic environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships are crucial, along with a commitment to gender balance and diversity.
Educational Background:
A relevant degree in information technology, data management, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in database management or related areas would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of data management principles and practices, as well as experience with database software and tools.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in database management or a related field. Experience working with international organizations or in a development context is preferred. Familiarity with gender issues and the challenges faced by women and girls in Senegal would be beneficial.
Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Senegal. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be required for reporting and communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages would be an asset.

- Facilitate and/or undertake additional data collection activities, coordinating methodologies and analyses with relevant staff.
- Oversee the registration databases and supervise data entry and reporting in close collaboration with the team.
- Provide training to ONU Femmes staff on database management.
- Engage in activities that enhance knowledge of volunteerism and contribute to the UNV program.
- Promote local forms of volunteerism and encourage the use of online volunteering services.
- Contribute articles on field experiences for UNV publications and websites.
- Assist in the UNV companion program for new UN volunteers. 1
- Ensure regular updates and maintenance of databases, providing quality reports in a timely manner.
