Job Overview:
As an obstetrician/gynecologist with MSF, you will be at the forefront of providing essential medical care in resource-limited settings. Your role will involve diagnosing and treating a variety of medical conditions related to women's health, particularly during childbirth. You will be expected to perform both emergency and planned surgeries, including Cesarean sections and hysterectomies, while managing obstetric complications such as instrumental deliveries. The position requires a strong ability to adapt to different cultural contexts surrounding childbirth, as you will be working with diverse populations. You will also play a crucial role in training and supporting local surgical and midwifery staff, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills to provide quality care. Collaboration with both local and international team members will be essential, as you will receive technical support and guidance through established protocols and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and treat medical conditions related to obstetrics and gynecology.
• Perform emergency and planned ob-gyn surgeries, including Cesarean sections and hysterectomies.
• Manage obstetric complications and provide post-operative follow-up care.
• Train and support local surgical and midwifery staff in clinical practices.
• Adapt to and respect the cultural practices surrounding childbirth in the communities served.
• Collaborate with MSF team members to ensure adherence to medical protocols and guidelines.
• Participate in the development and implementation of training programs for local healthcare providers.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of patient care.
• Engage in continuous professional development and stay updated on best practices in obstetric care. 1
• Provide support in emergency situations, including disaster response and public health emergencies.

Required Qualifications:

• Full and current medical registration (International medical graduates not registered in Canada must undergo a validation process).
• Post-residency experience is preferred but not mandatory.
• Experience in emergency obstetric care, including Cesarean sections and assisted deliveries.
• At least six months of clinical experience within the last two years.
• Experience in managing and training staff in a multicultural environment.
• Advanced-level fluency in English is required; French fluency is highly valued.
• Familiarity with other languages such as Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese is considered an asset.
• Relevant travel or work experience in contexts similar to MSF's operational environments is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a medical degree with specialization in obstetrics and gynecology. Additional training or certifications in emergency obstetric care or tropical medicine will be considered beneficial. Continuous professional development in relevant medical fields is encouraged to ensure up-to-date knowledge and skills.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six months of clinical experience within the last two years, preferably in emergency obstetric care settings. While post-residency experience is not mandatory, it is preferred. Candidates should have experience working in multicultural teams and managing staff, as well as relevant travel or work experience in challenging environments such as armed conflicts or public health emergencies.

Languages:
Fluency in English at an advanced level is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in French is highly valued, and knowledge of additional languages such as Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese is considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse populations served by MSF.
