Job Overview: The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern position within the CITES MIKE Program is designed for individuals who are passionate about wildlife conservation and environmental advocacy. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the CITES MIKE Programme Management Officer, contributing to the planning, research, production, and dissemination of communications and multimedia materials related to wildlife conservation topics. This role is crucial for enhancing public awareness and stakeholder engagement regarding the CITES MIKE Programme's activities at both regional and global levels. The intern will have the opportunity to develop skills in communication strategy, content creation, and multimedia production while supporting the implementation of various capacity-building and program management activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's duties will include, but are not limited to: drafting content for social media posts that highlight the work of CITES MIKE and broader global biodiversity topics, ensuring that all content aligns with CITES communication guidelines and the MIKE communication plan. The intern will also be responsible for editing and producing photo and video content, designing outreach and capacity-building materials such as factsheets and PowerPoint presentations, and organizing and maintaining internal storage for CITES MIKE’s multimedia assets. Additionally, the intern will support communication planning and implementation for campaigns, capacity-building activities, and key meetings, monitor social media and website performance, compile communications reports, maintain tracking lists and documentation related to CITES MIKE activities, and assist with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: (a) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); (b) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent or higher); or (c) have graduated with a university degree. A preferred area of study includes communications, graphic design, or other relevant fields, and certification in graphic designsoftware applications such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Canva, or similar is required. While professional work experience is not mandatory for applicants to the UN internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree programme (bachelor's or equivalent), a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. Proof of enrollment or a copy of the degree certificate must be provided with the application. The educational background should ideally be in communications, graphic design, or a related field that supports the responsibilities of the internship.
Experience: While applicants are not required to have professional work experience, it is essential that their field of study is closely related to the internship. This means that candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the tasks they will be performing during the internship, particularly in communications and multimedia production.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding. Knowledge of a language is defined as being 'confident' in two of the four areas.
