The position of Programme Support Associate focuses on supporting the implementation of FAO's programmes aimed at enhancing climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, and food systems in South Africa. Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential, along with experience in project management and administrative support. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances are also important. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to FAO's mission and values, including accountability, integrity, and respect for diversity.
Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as agriculture, environmental science, international development, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications or training in project management or administrative support would be advantageous.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in programme support, project management, or administrative roles, preferably within an international organization or development context. Experience working with UN agencies or in disaster risk reduction initiatives would be a plus.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the South African context, would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes:
This position is a volunteer assignment with a duration that is not specified. The Programme Support Associate will receive a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of R7,500.00, which is tax-free, to cover basic living expenses during the assignment. The role is full-time and offers access to UNV learning and development platforms to support professional and personal growth throughout the assignment. Candidates should be aware of the living conditions in South Africa, including the need for vigilance due to higher crime rates in certain areas.

- Monitoring and reporting on programme implementation by maintaining activity trackers, compiling information, and preparing reports for donors and stakeholders.
- Managing knowledge and documentation by organizing programme files, documenting lessons learned, and maintaining accurate project records.
- Engaging with stakeholders by coordinating meetings and consultations with government departments, municipalities, and development partners.
- Supporting communication and visibility efforts by compiling programme highlights and preparing presentations and reports.
- Providing general administrative support, including managing travel arrangements, procurement documentation, and maintaining financial records.
