Job Overview: The Intern (Graphic Design & Communication) position at WFP is designed to provide a practical learning opportunity for individuals interested in graphic design and visual communication within a humanitarian context. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Officer and will support the HR unit in creating simple communication materials while developing their skills in a multicultural professional environment. This internship aims to familiarize the intern with the operations of an international humanitarian organization and to enhance their foundational skills in visual communication as it pertains to HR activities. The intern will engage in various tasks that will help them understand the communication standards and branding of WFP, as well as the importance of effective visual communication in recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties that include:
Supporting graphic design and visual materials: Assisting in the design of simple visual materials such as posters, flyers, banners, certificates, internal announcements, and visuals for HR campaigns. Adapting existing templates while adhering to WFP's branding guidelines. Preparing visuals using Canva and other approved design tools under the team's supervision. Assisting in the layout of PowerPoint presentations, notes, information sheets, and other materials used by the HR unit. Proposing simple visual improvement ideas while integrating feedback received.
Supporting internal HR communication: Assisting in the preparation of short messages, announcements, and materials related to HR activities. Contributing to the development of materials for recruitment, onboarding, learning, and employee engagement activities. Ensuring a clear, consistent, and professional presentation of HR documents. Reviewing prepared materials to check for visual consistency, basic spelling, and clarity of formatting.
Providing administrative and organizational support related to HR activities: Assisting in the preparation of visual materials needed for meetings, workshops, training sessions, campaigns, and other HR activities. Supporting the organization of files, templates, photos, and communication materials used by the HR unit. Contributing to the collection and organization of visual content produced during HR activities when required. Performing any other simple tasks related to the internship as assigned by the supervisor, in a learning-oriented manner.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program or have recently graduated in a relevant field such as communication, graphic design, visual communication, multimedia, marketing, public relations, journalism, or any related area. While prior professional experience is not required, any academic projects, volunteer work, personal projects, or short-term experiences related to graphic design, communication, or content creation will be considered an asset. Basic knowledge of Canva and/or graphic design applications is essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Word. Candidates should demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, a willingness to learn, teamwork skills, and organizational abilities. The ability to work under supervision and incorporate feedback is crucial, as well as strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering quality outputs.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in or have recently completed a degree in a relevant field such as communication, graphic design, visual communication, multimedia, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the principles of design and communication that are essential for the internship role.
Experience: No prior professional experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates with academic projects, volunteer experiences, personal initiatives, or short-term roles related to graphic design, communication, or content creation will have an advantage. The internship is primarily aimed at individuals seeking to gain practical experience and develop their skills in a professional setting.
Languages: Fluency in both spoken and written French is mandatory for this position. A practical knowledge of English is desirable, as it may facilitate communication within the international context of WFP and enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse teams and stakeholders.
