Job Overview: As a midwife with MSF, you will play a crucial role in delivering maternal and child health services in challenging environments. Your primary responsibilities will include supervising and training local birth attendants, conducting prenatal consultations, and providing family planning counseling. In areas where healthcare systems are under strain, you may also be required to directly examine and treat women. Your role will extend to collecting and analyzing health data, writing reports, and coordinating maternal health programs in rural clinics and mobile healthcare units. You will be expected to implement policies that enhance reproductive healthcare and ensure the delivery of quality services to mothers and children.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and train local birth attendants to ensure quality maternal and child health services.
Conduct prenatal consultations and provide family planning counseling to women.
Directly examine and treat women in areas with failing healthcare systems.
Collect and analyze health data to inform program decisions and report writing.
Coordinate maternal health programs in rural clinics and mobile clinics.
Support the development and implementation of policies related to maternal and child health.
Participate in the management of complicated deliveries and provide care for survivors of sexual assault.
Manage and supervise a multicultural team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Engage in continuous professional development and training to enhance service delivery.
Required Qualifications:
Full and current registration as a midwife.
Minimum of two years of post-qualification work experience in midwifery.
Experience in medical and surgical termination of pregnancy, management of sexually transmitted infections, and complicated deliveries in hospital settings.
At least six months of clinical experience within the last two years.
Proven experience in managing staff in a multicultural team, including supervision and training.
Relevant travel or work experience in contexts similar to MSF's operational environments, such as armed conflicts or public health emergencies.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a recognized qualification in midwifery, which includes comprehensive training in maternal and child health. Continuous professional development and additional certifications in relevant areas such as tropical medicine or emergency obstetric care are highly valued.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience in midwifery, with at least six months of clinical experience within the last two years. Experience in managing staff and working in multicultural teams is essential, as is familiarity with the challenges faced in humanitarian contexts.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory, with a minimum level of B2 in both languages. Additional languages such as Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese are considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: The position requires availability to work for a duration of six to twelve months. The role is full-time and may involve working in challenging environments.
