Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will be embedded within the UNICEF Jordan Country Office and will support program management, coordination, monitoring, and reporting functions across UNICEF-supported programs. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Programme Specialist/Officer and contribute to strengthening program implementation, partner coordination, documentation, and knowledge management. This assignment is critical to UNICEF Jordan’s efforts to achieve equitable outcomes for children and communities. The volunteer will engage closely with government counterparts, implementing partners, civil society organizations, UN agencies, donors, and other key stakeholders to facilitate the timely delivery of program results. The role requires a proactive approach to program planning and execution, ensuring that all activities align with UNICEF’s strategic objectives and national priorities. The volunteer will also play a vital role in enhancing the capacity of local partners and stakeholders to effectively implement and monitor programs, thereby contributing to the overall mission of UNICEF in Jordan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the UNICEF Programme Officer, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of program activities in line with annual workplans and program priorities; assisting in tracking program progress against agreed timelines, deliverables, indicators, and targets; supporting the preparation, review, and quality assurance of program documents, workplans, reports, presentations, briefing notes, and meeting materials; following up with implementing partners and relevant stakeholders on agreed actions, deliverables, and reporting requirements; supporting monitoring activities, data collection, compilation, analysis, and documentation of program results; contributing to the preparation of donor reports, progress updates, internal reports, and program performance summaries; maintaining organized records of program documentation, reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, and knowledge products; assisting in organizing meetings, workshops, consultations, training sessions, and field visits; preparing meeting agendas, minutes, action trackers, and follow-up communications; supporting coordination with government counterparts, implementing partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders; assisting in the establishment of community feedback mechanisms and using feedback to inform community engagement; documenting lessons learned, good practices, innovations, and program achievements; supporting capacity development internally and externally and providing technical support and capacity building to government counterparts; supporting knowledge management and information-sharing activities within the program team; assisting in tracking program expenditures and budget utilization against planned activities; and ensuring compliance with UNICEF program management procedures, reporting requirements, and documentation standards. The volunteer may also perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF’s mission and values, including a focus on equity and inclusion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously is also important. Candidates should be adaptable and flexible, with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges. Previous experience in program management, monitoring, or evaluation is an asset, as is familiarity with the UN system and humanitarian principles.
Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, international development, public administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an advantage. Candidates should have a strong academic background that demonstrates their understanding of development issues, particularly those affecting children and communities in Jordan.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in program management, monitoring, or evaluation, preferably within an international organization or NGO. Experience working in the field of child rights, education, health, or social protection is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Jordanian context and the challenges faced by children and families in the region will be beneficial. Previous volunteer experience or internships in related fields will also be considered an asset.
Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, as it is the official language of Jordan. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is widely spoken and used in professional settings. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly if they are relevant to the communities served by UNICEF in Jordan.
Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are entitled to a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of JOD 1,145.08, as well as annual and learning leaves. They will also receive free medical and life insurance, and access to various learning platforms. The position is based in Amman, which is a family duty station (category A hardship) according to the UN Department of Safety & security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (UNDSS). The living conditions in Amman are generally favorable, with a range of amenities and services available.
