Job Overview:
The Protection Coordinator plays a crucial role in providing technical support and guidance to colleagues involved in protection responsibilities within NRC. This position is responsible for developing relevant training programs, coaching, and mentoring protection staff to ensure adherence to NRC’s protection standards. The coordinator will work closely with the ICLA/Protection Technical Specialist to enhance NRC’s Protection Core Competency strategy and ensure that protection programs are effectively implemented and continuously improved. The role involves overseeing the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of protection programs, ensuring they align with NRC strategies, policies, and humanitarian standards. The Protection Coordinator will also lead protection monitoring and risk analysis efforts to inform program adaptations and advocacy priorities, while strengthening the integration of protection principles across all NRC programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: providing technical guidance and quality assurance for protection activities; leading protection monitoring and risk analysis processes; developing and rolling out protection methodologies and tools; representing NRC in protection coordination mechanisms and external forums; maintaining effective relationships with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders; ensuring compliance with NRC policies and relevant legal frameworks; supporting the development of technical guidance and advocacy products; and contributing to emergency preparedness and strategic protection initiatives. The coordinator will also be tasked with identifying emerging protection trends and providing recommendations to strengthen NRC’s protection portfolio.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Human Rights, Social Sciences, Development Studies, International Relations, Refugee and Migration Studies, Social Work, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline is considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in protection programming within humanitarian or development contexts, including experience in a coordination or supervisory role. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential, along with excellent report writing and presentation abilities.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Law, Human Rights, Social Sciences, Development Studies, International Relations, Refugee and Migration Studies, or Social Work. A postgraduate qualification in a related discipline is highly desirable and will enhance a candidate's profile for this role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in protection programming, particularly within humanitarian, development, or displacement contexts. Experience in a coordination or supervisory role is essential, as is demonstrated experience in design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. Familiarity with international human rights law, international refugee law, and protection principles is crucial for success in this position.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the communities served by NRC in Uganda.
