Job Overview:
The Multimedia and Graphic Design Consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and reach of the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) across various digital platforms. This position is hosted by the UNEP Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Unit within the Marine and Freshwater Branch. The consultant will be responsible for creating engaging and relevant content for the GFCR webpage, developing a branding toolkit, and producing multimedia products that support UNEP’s advocacy efforts. The consultant will work closely with the Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Unit Chief and Programme Management Officer to deliver high-quality communications materials that align with UNEP’s objectives in marine ecosystems. The role requires a blend of graphic design, multimedia production, and social media management to effectively communicate UNEP’s initiatives and engage stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks aimed at strengthening GFCR’s communications. Key responsibilities include:
  • Graphic Design and Visual Production: Design and produce high-quality graphic materials in line with GFCR and partner brand guidelines, develop layouts for reports and publications, and ensure consistency of visual identity across all outputs.
  • Multimedia and Video Production: Prepare photo and video materials, film and produce case study videos, edit and package video content for various platforms, and produce light motion graphics or animations.
  • Social Media Pipeline Management: Maintain and update a social media content pipeline, produce platform-specific visual and video assets, and support campaigns aligned with global milestones.
  • GFCR Quarterly Newsletter: Design and format the quarterly digital newsletter, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
  • Website Content Management: Upload and update website content, support visual improvements, and coordinate with technical teams.
  • GFCR 5-Year Midpoint Report: Lead the design and visual presentation of the report, develop infographics, and deliver print-ready and web-optimized versions.
  • Visual Asset Management: Maintain and update the GFCR photo and video repository, ensuring assets are accessible for reuse.
  • Design of Technical Publications: Design and format various technical publications related to wastewater surveillance and environmental management, ensuring clear visual presentation of data and findings.

Required Qualifications:
An advanced degree in Communications or environmental programmes is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of 2 years of experience in communications and environmental programmes is required, along with experience working with multi-disciplinary teams. Strong knowledge of website development and social media tools is desirable, as is the ability to plan, organize, implement, and report on work effectively. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines is also important.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in Communications or environmental programmes. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience. This educational background ensures that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to UNEP’s communications efforts.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in communications and environmental programmes. Candidates should have demonstrated experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, including local and expatriate technical experts. Experience in planning and executing events, webinars, training, and workshops is desirable, as is a strong understanding of website development and social media tools.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position. While English is the primary working language, knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in both languages would enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders.
