Job Posting Organization:
The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a global intergovernmental treaty established to promote the conservation and sustainable use of migratory species and their habitats. The CMS Secretariat, located in Bonn, Germany, supports various intergovernmental instruments aimed at migratory species conservation. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serves as the designated entity within the UN system for addressing environmental issues globally and regionally, coordinating the development of environmental policy consensus. UNEP provides administrative services to the CMS and its associated agreements, including the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS). The CMS Dugong MOU Secretariat is currently implementing a project focused on the conservation of biodiversity and seagrass ecosystems, funded through the International Climate Initiative, which supports seagrass conservation and sustainable coastal livelihoods across several countries in Southeast Asia and India.

Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in strengthening the Dugong and Seagrass Hub, which serves as a sustainable and user-friendly knowledge platform. This platform is essential for the long-term management, accessibility, and dissemination of the Project's knowledge products. The consultant will be responsible for restructuring the Hub to ensure it accurately reflects the Project's final outputs and remains accessible, user-friendly, technically robust, and easy to maintain. The consultant will work closely with the Project Manager and the Dugong MOU Project Coordinator to ensure that the deliverables meet the required standards and timelines. The position is home-based and expected to last for one month (30 days).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key tasks, including:
  • Developing a revised website information architecture and content taxonomy in consultation with the Secretariat.
  • Reorganizing website menus, page hierarchy, categories, tags, and navigation to enhance usability and long-term content management.
  • Migrating, editing, formatting, and publishing existing and newly developed content.
  • Implementing agreed technical improvements within the existing WordPress environment, which includes page templates, plugins, configuration settings, and other website functionalities.
  • Resolving identified technical issues and implementing revisions based on Secretariat feedback.
  • Submitting all deliverables electronically in formats agreed upon with the Secretariat. The consultant's performance will be evaluated based on the quality and completeness of the work, technical accuracy, responsiveness to feedback, and adherence to the agreed timeline.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Web Development, or a related discipline. However, equivalent professional experience demonstrating advanced technical competence and a proven track record in website development and content management may be accepted in lieu of formal qualifications. Candidates must possess a minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience in developing, administering, and maintaining WordPress websites, including theme customization, plugin management, user roles, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and performance optimization. Additionally, candidates should have experience in back-end website development and maintenance, including troubleshooting, custom functionality, database management, and CMS configuration. Experience in content migration, information architecture, taxonomy design, and search optimization for CMS-based websites is also essential. Furthermore, candidates should have experience managing website hosting, software updates, backups, and website security, as well as integrating third-party tools, interactive maps, forms, or APIs into WordPress websites.

Educational Background:
A university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field is desirable for this position. However, candidates with equivalent professional experience that demonstrates advanced technical competence and a proven track record in website development and content management may be considered in lieu of formal educational qualifications. This flexibility allows for a broader range of applicants who possess the necessary skills and experience to fulfill the role effectively.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience in developing, administering, and maintaining WordPress websites. This experience should include a strong background in theme customization, plugin management, user roles, security, and performance optimization. Additionally, candidates should have substantial experience in back-end website development and maintenance, including troubleshooting, custom functionality, database management, and CMS configuration. The role requires expertise in content migration, information architecture, taxonomy design, and search optimization for CMS-based websites, as well as experience managing website hosting, software updates, backups, and website security. Familiarity with integrating third-party tools, interactive maps, forms, or APIs into WordPress websites is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this consulting position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, knowledge of French is considered beneficial, as it is also a working language of the UN. Proficiency in these languages will facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the international context of the organization.
