Job Overview:
The FAO Project Management Expert plays a crucial role in the Project Support Division (PSS), which coordinates FAO's efforts towards fulfilling the FAO Strategic Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its projects and field programs. This position involves overseeing the day-to-day management of project implementation, ensuring effective resource utilization, timely delivery of work plans, adherence to budgets, and risk management. The expert will collaborate closely with the Lead Technical Officer and report to the Budget Holder, ensuring that all project activities align with FAO's rules and procedures. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and effective communication with stakeholders to achieve project results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the FAO Project Management Expert include leading the day-to-day implementation of the project, providing guidance and supervision to project personnel, ensuring the preparation and monitoring of project plans with a focus on budget management, and maintaining the Logical Framework Matrix (LFM). The expert will manage affiliate personnel, goods, and services, oversee the work of implementing partners, and maintain positive working relations with stakeholders. Additionally, the expert will identify and manage potential risks, ensure effective communication and visibility in line with project plans, prepare and submit reports, and ensure all project deliverables are completed and documented appropriately. The role also involves supporting project evaluations and preparing for project closure.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in public or business administration, finance, accounting, economics, social sciences, or any other discipline relevant to the work of the Organization. A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in Project and Programme Management is required, with consultants holding a bachelor's degree needing two additional years of relevant professional experience. A working knowledge of English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian is also mandatory.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as public or business administration, finance, accounting, economics, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of project management within the context of FAO's mission and operations.

Experience:
The position requires at least ten years of relevant experience in Project and Programme Management. Candidates with a bachelor's degree must have a total of twelve years of relevant professional experience. Experience at the international level in project implementation and managing operations is highly desirable, particularly in supporting complex multi-stakeholder projects. Familiarity with UN administrative, operational, and financial procedures, as well as FAO policies and programs, is considered a strong asset.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian is highly desirable. This multilingual capability is important for effective communication and collaboration in the diverse international environment of FAO.
