Job Overview:
The Telecom and Network Infrastructure Technician will join the Deployment and Operations team within the Communication Systems and Fabric Group at CERN. This position is crucial for ensuring reliable connectivity across CERN's extensive research environment. The technician will coordinate and oversee telecom and network infrastructure projects, collaborating with contractors, users, and technical teams to plan installations, verify quality, ensure safety, and maintain accurate documentation. Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties of the Telecom and Network Infrastructure Technician include reviewing cabling requests and collaborating with requesters to clarify their needs. The technician will help define suitable cable types and routes, coordinating cabling and de-cabling activities with both internal teams and external partners. They will prepare clear and practical documentation to support the work, such as technical plans and drawings. The technician will contribute to safe working practices by identifying potential risks and supporting the implementation of mitigation measures in accordance with CERN standards. Additionally, they will organize logistics for cabling activities, including materials and equipment, participate in worksite coordination meetings, track progress, and ensure that work is carried out safely and to a high standard. The technician will also take part in inspections and acceptance of completed work, helping to keep infrastructure records up to date.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in Telecommunications, Information & Communication Technologies, Electric, or a related field. Experience in telecom, network, electrical, industrial, or technical infrastructure installation environments is essential. The ability to coordinate work on-site with contractors, users, or technical teams is required, along with a good understanding of safety, quality, and documentation practices. Candidates should be able to read or produce basic technical documentation, drawings, or work instructions. Experience with structured cabling, fiber, copper, coaxial, or radio/leaky-feeder systems is desirable, as is work experience in complex industrial or safety-regulated environments. Familiarity with acceptance testing, certification, or quality checks of cabling installations is also beneficial, along with contractor follow-up or worksite coordination experience.

Educational Background:
The position requires a higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in the fields of Telecommunications, Information & Communication Technologies, Electric, or related disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of the role and ensuring effective communication with various stakeholders involved in the projects.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in telecom, network, electrical, industrial, or technical infrastructure installation environments. This experience is vital for the technician to effectively coordinate work on-site, manage relationships with contractors and users, and ensure that all safety and quality standards are met. Previous roles that involved hands-on work in similar environments will be advantageous.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, and knowledge of French is considered an advantage. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to learning the other language, as effective communication is essential in this international work environment.

Additional Notes:
The position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, with hybrid job flexibility. The role may involve work in radiation areas, interventions in underground installations, and work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as required by the organization's needs. Stand-by duty may also be required.
