Job Overview:
The Environmental Health Specialist Lead - Exposure will play a crucial role in addressing lead poisoning, a significant public health challenge in India. The incumbent will be part of the Technical Support Unit (TSU) embedded within the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), providing essential technical, coordination, and secretariat support to government counterparts. This position requires a blend of policy acumen and operational discipline to translate high-level intentions into structured operational work plans, facilitating inter-ministerial coordination and governance architecture that endures beyond individual donor cycles. The role involves working closely with various stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of lead mitigation strategies and to support the establishment of the National Biomonitoring Programme for Chemical Toxicants (NBPCT).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for providing day-to-day secretariat support to NCDC for the NBPCT, which includes preparing meeting agendas, data-backed work plans, and activity plans. They will support the National Lead Technical Working Group by synthesizing data, providing expert inputs, and ensuring that discussions lead to actionable outcomes. The role also involves integrating state and laboratory surveillance data into the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) and contributing to the design of dashboards for decision-making. Additionally, the specialist will strengthen NCDC's capacity for data-driven decision-making, consolidate learnings from state-level engagements, and facilitate inter-ministerial consultations on lead and chemical toxicants. They will develop and maintain work plan trackers, prepare high-quality progress reports, and lead WJCF's engagement in focal states, ensuring alignment between state health and environment departments.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in public health, public policy, environmental science, health management, development studies, or a related field. A minimum of 4–6 years of relevant experience is required, along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative modeling skills. The ability to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders, including senior-level individuals, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to work independently in ambiguous environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, is also required.
Educational Background:
The position requires a postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as public health, public policy, environmental science, health management, or development studies. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of public health challenges and for effectively contributing to the organization's mission.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 4–6 years of relevant experience in public health, particularly in areas related to environmental health or chemical toxicants. Experience in a secretariat or Technical Support Unit (TSU) role supporting government technical programs in public health is preferred. Languages:
Professional proficiency in Hindi is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it aids in communication with diverse stakeholders across different states.
