Job Overview:
The Migration Health Nurse will play a crucial role in supporting the health needs of migrants and refugees under the supervision of the Head of Sub-office in Zarzis and the direct supervision of the migration health physician. This position involves providing essential nursing care, conducting medical examinations, and supporting various health programs aimed at ensuring the well-being of migrants. The nurse will be responsible for assisting with daily nursing activities, including vital sign checks, specimen collection, and supporting tuberculosis management. The role also includes providing information to migrants regarding health assessments and treatments, ensuring proper documentation, and maintaining health records. The nurse will work closely with the medical team to ensure comprehensive care and support for migrants throughout their journey, from pre-departure to arrival at their final destination.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Migration Health Nurse will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Assisting with daily nursing activities, including conducting medical examinations and collecting specimens as required.
  • Supporting tuberculosis management and infection prevention protocols.
  • Providing information and support to migrants regarding health assessments, treatments, and referrals to healthcare facilities.
  • Maintaining accurate records of health assessments and ensuring proper documentation is completed.
  • Assisting in medical emergency management and chronic case management.
  • Performing medical escort duties when necessary to ensure continuity of care.
  • Collaborating with laboratory services to ensure timely receipt of test results.
  • Preparing lists of medical supplies and assisting with inventory management.
  • Following standard operating procedures and maintaining universal precautions within IOM clinics. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the migration health physician or supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid nursing license to practice in Tunisia and have completed a Certificate or High School diploma from an accredited academic institution in Nursing. For those holding a Bachelor's Degree, a minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience is required, while Diploma holders must have at least four years of relevant clinical experience. Experience in tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, communicable diseases, and laboratory testing is highly advantageous. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate knowledge of preventive care principles and disease control, as well as proficiency in using computer applications, particularly the MS Office suite.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Certificate or High School diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution. Candidates must also hold a valid nursing license to practice in the country of duty station, which is Tunisia. Accredited institutions are those recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational qualifications meet international standards.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant clinical experience, with a minimum of two years for those holding a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and four years for Diploma holders. Experience in areas such as tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, and communicable diseases is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds, which is essential for effectively engaging with migrant populations.

Languages:
Fluency in French and English is mandatory for this position, both in oral and written forms. All IOM staff members are required to be proficient in at least one of the organization's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the communication requirements of the role.
