Job Overview:
The Senior Staff Nurse position at UNRWA involves acting as the principal nursing officer at a health center, supervising and providing technical support to nursing staff, midwives, and non-paramedical staff. The role requires ensuring the smooth operation of the electronic medical record system, training nursing staff, and maintaining proper records in accordance with health policies. The incumbent will also oversee data collection and reporting of nursing activities, assist in health center administration, and ensure the provision of health services aligns with the Family Health Team Approach. The position demands a high standard of infection control and cleanliness in the health center, as well as the ability to perform nursing duties when necessary. The Senior Staff Nurse will also be responsible for conducting on-the-job training for staff and participating in in-service courses as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Act as the principal nursing officer at the health center, supervising and directing nursing staff, practical nurses, midwives, and non-paramedical staff according to technical instructions.
• Ensure the smooth operation of the electronic medical record system, including training staff and maintaining necessary equipment.
• Supervise data collection, analysis, and reporting of nursing activities, including follow-ups on defaulters and home visits.
• Assist in health center administration, controlling and keeping records of medical supplies and ensuring their availability.
• Direct and participate in activities related to cross-cutting issues such as gender-based violence and disability.
• Resume nursing responsibilities when necessary and perform periodic IUD insertions and checkups.
• Conduct on-the-job training for nursing staff and ensure high standards of infection control and cleanliness in the health center.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a successful completion of secondary school and a university degree or at least three years of nursing studies from an accredited institution. A valid nursing license in the duty station is also required. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the UN's core values of professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a secondary school diploma and a university degree in nursing or equivalent qualifications from an accredited institution. Candidates must also possess a valid nursing license to practice in the country of duty station, where applicable.

Experience:
At least four years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience as a qualified nurse is required, including one year of supervisory experience in nursing services. Experience in primary health care provision is desirable, along with the ability to use computers and understand their application in health services.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is a fixed-term appointment for one year, including a one-year probation period, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The monthly basic salary is USD 1,431.50, payable in Jordanian Dinar at the UN monthly exchange rate. Benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and additional sick leave and maternity/paternity leave provisions. The vacancy is open to internal candidates only, and preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates from underrepresented genders. The successful candidate must reside in the duty station or nearby areas for easy commuting.
