Job Overview:
The Supply Chain Management (SCM) Associate will play a crucial role in supporting CHAI’s Malaria Case Management Commodity Backstop Fund. This position involves direct collaboration with CHAI country teams and government partners in various countries, including Burkina Faso, Mali, Nigeria, and Malawi. The SCM Associate will be responsible for collecting and analyzing procurement and stock level data for malaria commodities, comparing this data against stock levels and orders from international donors to identify potential stock outs. The role requires assessing whether these stock outs meet the criteria for emergency procurement through CHAI’s Commodity Backstop Fund and managing the orders placed through this fund. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate resourcefulness, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The SCM Associate will be tasked with collaborating with government partners and CHAI country teams to compile stock level data from various sources, including logistics management information systems and supply plans. They will identify national stock gaps for malaria treatments and rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs). The Associate will also work closely with global partners to reconcile country stock and order data with global procurement data. In countries without a CHAI office, they will engage with National Malaria Programs and other stakeholders to gather necessary data. The role includes liaising with manufacturers and freight forwarders to evaluate bids and agree on shipping terms, as well as preparing in-country stakeholders for receiving commodities. Establishing supply chain monitoring and evaluation indicators to track the impact of emergency procurements and supporting country staff in developing distribution plans are also key responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in health, public policy, health economics, or supply chain management. A minimum of 3 years of experience in public health, health commodities management, or related fields is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential, along with exceptional analytical and communication skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team is crucial, as is the capacity to remain effective in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be willing to travel up to 25% as needed and demonstrate a strong work ethic and integrity.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with a focus on health, public policy, health economics, or supply chain management. Advanced degrees such as a Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Science (MS) in relevant fields are considered advantageous.
Experience:
The position requires at least 3 years of relevant experience in public health, health commodities management, or related fields. Experience in international contexts or entrepreneurial environments is preferred, along with a strong background in logistics management and health information systems.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in French considered an advantage. Strong communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with global and country partners.
