They aim to foster collaboration among communities and stakeholders to promote community-driven development and ensure that young people have access to educational opportunities and resources for leadership.

Job Overview:
The position involves supporting the development of the founding strategic architecture for the Freedom to Decide Movement (FDM), a coalition of youth-led and youth-serving organizations in the Fako Division of Cameroon. The FDM aims to empower young people to make decisions regarding their bodies, health, and futures. Both volunteers will collaborate with the FDM Movement Lead and utilize drafts and public materials to create documents that are suitable for member ratification and donor presentation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with the FDM Movement Lead to develop a comprehensive Movement Strategy for 2027–2029, which includes a situation analysis, theory of change, strategic objectives, and governance arrangements.

  • Designing low-visibility alternatives for public activities to ensure safety.
  • Producing short derivative versions of the strategy, including a member-facing summary in plain English and a donor-facing summary.
  • For the M&E volunteer, developing a results framework with a small set of headline indicators that can be realistically tracked, including definitions, data sources, and disaggregation by sex, age, disability, and displacement status.
  • Implementing an outcome harvesting approach to capture changes in public discourse and duty bearer behavior.
  • Creating a quarterly reporting template for the Movement’s Steering Committee and a light internal mid-line review protocol.
  • Participating in fortnightly virtual check-ins and incorporating feedback from the Movement Lead and member organization reviewers.
  • Ensuring that all work is conducted using public documents and anonymized data, adhering to confidentiality and ethical guidelines.

The position requires volunteers to have complementary profiles: one with expertise in strategy and implementation planning, and the other with a background in monitoring, evaluation, and learning. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable plans, and experience in working with community organizations or coalitions. Familiarity with the context of youth rights, health, and gender issues in Cameroon is highly desirable. Additionally, volunteers should be comfortable working in a remote environment and have excellent communication skills to facilitate collaboration with team members and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
While specific educational qualifications are not explicitly stated, a background in social sciences, public health, international development, or a related field is likely beneficial for this role. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of community development principles and practices, particularly in relation to youth empowerment and rights.

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in strategic planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation within the context of community development or youth-focused initiatives. Experience working with coalitions or networks, particularly in conflict-affected areas, is advantageous. Volunteers should be able to demonstrate their ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team setting, as well as their capacity to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a remote work environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as the primary language of communication will be English. Knowledge of French may be considered an asset, given the bilingual nature of Cameroon and the potential need to engage with a wider audience.

Additional Notes:
This position is entirely remote, allowing volunteers to work from anywhere. The duration of the contract is not specified, but the role involves ongoing collaboration with the FDM Movement Lead and other stakeholders. Volunteers will not have access to sensitive data or personal information, ensuring the safety and confidentiality of community members. The role is designed to be flexible, accommodating the realities of working in a conflict-affected region.
