Job Overview:
The Technical Advisor for Commodity Access will play a crucial role in leading CHAI's efforts to improve case management and supply chain management for malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) across Africa. This position requires a highly motivated individual with strong public health experience and analytical skills. The advisor will work closely with CHAI’s malaria and NTD technical experts to provide technical assistance to regional and country teams, ensuring that effective care is delivered through community health worker networks and public and private health systems. The role involves setting and managing priorities for the Africa-based commodity access team, enhancing CHAI’s expertise in malaria and NTD management, and developing a global network of stakeholders in these areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Advisor will be responsible for directly managing the Africa-based commodity access regional leads and providing hands-on support to CHAI’s country and global teams as needed. Key responsibilities include collaborating with various stakeholders, staying informed about relevant workstreams, providing strategic direction and operational support to country teams, leading new workstreams, managing recruitment and development of the commodity access team, supporting funding proposals, and maintaining knowledge of new diagnostic and treatment commodities. The advisor will also support donor reporting and strategic planning within the commodity access team and the global malaria and NTD team.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have experience in various roles within CHAI’s malaria and NTD team, a university degree, and at least 5 years of relevant work experience with increasing levels of responsibility. The ability to travel up to 50% of the time is required, including extended trips. Proficiency in written and spoken English and French is mandatory, along with high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Candidates should possess exceptional analytical and communication skills, the ability to think strategically, and experience in people management. The role demands flexibility, the ability to handle multiple tasks, and a strong work ethic.
Educational Background:
A university degree is required for this position, ideally in a field related to public health, international development, or a similar discipline. Advanced degrees may be advantageous but are not explicitly required.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, ideally in roles that demonstrate increasing responsibility and leadership within public health or related fields. Experience in international contexts or entrepreneurial environments is preferred, as is familiarity with health system strengthening initiatives.
Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English and French is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills in Spanish or Portuguese are considered advantageous but not required.
