Job Overview:
The Mental Health & psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support Child Protection Associate will play a crucial role in strengthening mental health and psychosocial support for children and adolescents in Vanuatu. This position is integral to the rollout of the 'I Support My Friends' initiative, which aims to empower children and adolescents to recognize signs of distress among their peers and provide appropriate support. The associate will work closely with the Ministry of Education and Training, schools, and community stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of this program, which is vital for enhancing child protection, education, and community resilience. The role requires a collaborative approach to planning, training, and mentoring, ensuring that all activities are aligned with child safeguarding and mental health principles.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The National UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: supporting the planning and coordination of rollout activities for the 'I Support My Friends' initiative; organizing and delivering training sessions for facilitators, school staff, and students; providing ongoing mentoring and support to trained adults; documenting implementation progress and challenges; ensuring adherence to safe referral pathways and confidentiality; preparing reports on activities and participant feedback; and facilitating communication and coordination among UNICEF, the Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders. The role also involves general program support related to child protection and emergency response activities.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A background in child protection, education, or mental health is preferred, along with experience in training and capacity building. Familiarity with the local context and challenges faced by children and adolescents in Vanuatu is essential. The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work effectively in diverse settings is also crucial.
Educational Background:
A degree in social work, psychology, education, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in mental health, psychosocial support, or child protection would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of child safeguarding principles and practices.
Experience:
The position requires prior experience in child protection, mental health, or educational settings, ideally with a focus on psychosocial support. Experience working with children and adolescents, particularly in a training or mentoring capacity, is highly desirable. Familiarity with community engagement and program implementation in a development context will be beneficial.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Bislama or other local languages would be an asset. Strong communication skills in both written and spoken formats are essential for effective reporting and stakeholder engagement.
Additional Notes:
This is a National UN Volunteer position, which means the volunteer will need to arrange their own accommodation and living essentials.
